emaxx regrets???? -
03.04.2008, 12:12 PM
i'm just tossing the idea around and wanted some experienced feedback on my idea. this is for those who have built a really nice emaxx and sold it down the road. i'm talking about putting a nice little investment into them making it basically bullet proof. do you guys that have and later sold them regret getting rid of it later down the road? i know there will be a loss, so i'm pretty sure if i do sell the chances of me building another are pretty slim. otoh, its a dated design, and so many other vehicals (especially with nitro conversions), that building something better and faster is not far fetched.

I had a very nice FLM e-maxx and as much as i enjoyed tat truck, have no regrets about selling it. Every time I start to miss it I throw a battery in the e-revo and remember why I did ;)

personally, i like the un-upgraded feel. if all you care about is to bash, and dont mind having your aluminum take a beating, then go for it. otherwise, i would just leave it almost stock and just upgrade the really necessary parts, (wheels and tires, bulkheads, and body, motor/esc and batts.) i do not really mind replacing parts, so, the heavy aluminum really doesn't do it for me.thats just my 2 cents. nothing against aluminum, but juust too heavy for my taste.

Well I really like maxx trucks (I have 4 or 5) and with the new center diff mount for the flm chassis, it looks like I will be building another.
I like the full rpm suspension treatment and shock towers, especially the new rpm rear setup that deletes the tie rod. Hybrid bulks with hb buggy gears, a flm chassis, the center diff mount, and the slipper/diff when it comes out would be a killer setup. 3.3 axles, and some sort of shock setup. I usually use the stock shocks, as I never have any issues with them.
I am building a bpp racebomb at the moment, should be a nice truck. It has the hybrids and a full rpm treatment.

I parted m Emaxx out some time ago and never looked back. WAY too many other good options out there IMO.
My problem with the emaxx was, by the time I upgraded everyything so it could withstand a day of running (either on a track or just bashing it around) without breaking I had so much money in it I no longer wanted to run it for fear of defacing/damageing it. But, back when I built mine the 1/8 thing was not as easy to do. The motor mounts that you can get from RC-Monster now didnt exist and if you wanted to mount a motor in something you had to fab it up or design it and have it fabed for you and the G2R wasnt around yet for the easy revo conversion. Now there are many almost drop in solutions. and I much prefer them especially if you plan on running it. You can take a tough basically stock buggy or truggy and bolt in the motor mount and your electronics and battery tray and you are off with an almost indestructable vehicle with no fear of part breakage cuz eveything isnt aftermarket on it and is easilly replaceable for reasonable $.
The only reason I miss my Maxx is for nostalgic purposes. It would be nice to have a blinged out beefed up maxx to have around just to have. Lets face it, probably 90% of the people on this board had an emaxx as their first electric large scale vehicle. (even though its still technically 1/10)
Now Onthe other hand... The new emaxx looks to be much tougher, but I havent ever messed with one myself. That I could see just buying one, dropping a nice mid power brushless system in it and haveing a nice daily driver that seems that it can take the punishment.
I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

i'm really thinking about it. i getting a truggy running right now, and after i play with it for a while, i'm sure i'll be able to make a decision.
i guess if i do sell it, and start wanting another mt, i could alway look into the lst or something a bit different. heck, i could buy a nice roller with what i get out of my maxx roller i'm sure and have a bit left over.

Never had a maxx to regret selling, but jhautz hits the nail on the head. Getting all that shiny Al on there and then not running it because it looks oh-so-pretty makes no sense.
Getting something that is basically BL-worthy (diffs/chassis/suspension/tranny/etc) and adding just the necessary conversion parts makes much more sense IMO. Not to mention that if things do break, the chances of finding a quick replacement at your LHS is much greater...
This was probably the primary reason for the second version of my e-revo. The maxx tranny design with all the customization in v1 made it a PITA to replace when things broke. V2 uses mostly stock parts so replacement parts are easy to find. The few custom things that are on there are fairly simple to re-make if needed...

I have a feeling that weight is what really kills maxx trucks. I run std rims and tires, light batteries and the minimum of al. My 2wd emaxx (old) has stock everything except for cvds and a single speed gmaxx conversion. It can handle a beating, but is light.
The new emaxx is working on the sames principle, only it has the 3.3 driveshafts and upgraded diffs. Plus not running 14 nimh cells also helps. I am very happy with my new emaxx, and would recommend it.
