Emaxx to 1/8th Buggy Conversion? -
08.14.2005, 10:24 PM
So I was challenged by my local track to do 1/8 buggy. If you know me...if it spills, leaks or smells...I don't want it so I won't race nitro. I would guess having kids are out too since the spill, leak and smell. Any ways, I want to make my Emaxx and super-fast 1/8 buggy, minus 5cm in length. So I need a lil help picking out the upgrades.
Will the Pro-Line HD Hex Adapter 23mm Maxx Revo MGT fit normal 1/8th buggy tires?
Driveline? Seems plastic is a lil weak for racing, CVD? Gearing? Single or 2 Speed.
Motor and Controller? Would the stock motors be fine or should I do a simple Novak HV swap or into exotic brushless and controller setups. 20 cells would be awesome to pull out the most watts from 3300nihm but could be a lil heavy for my taste since jumping and turning will be required.
Body? Baja Truck body or buggy? Not like I am legal for racing outside my local track so I quess body really doesnt matter.
If you like my Idea of Brushless 1/8th scale buggy racing....promote it. Call traxxas, mugen, kyosho or your favotire brand and say EMBRACE BRUSHLESS....cause your drivelines are too weak for running brushless. But if you just have suggestions for making my 1/8 buggy right the first time without blowing the bank rebuying the right stuff.

What is your plan? you have got a buggy you want to convert to maxx or a maxx that needs a conversion to buggy - 5cm?
about the 23 mm adaptors; i don't know buggy rimms that have got the 23 mm hex. The alternative is called Komodo. (it are buggysized tires meant for Maxx sized rimms.)
If you go for a real BL setup, you need some cvd's and some aluminum to beef up your drivetrain.
Racing it on 12-14 cells makes it quick and nimble, the 9L or XL2800 wil do the job with pleasure.
About converting an emaxx to buggy, check the gorillamaxx low cg frames. They are what you are looking for.. Though i don't know what you wan't with the -5cm thing..

I just did a quick comparision of my EMAXX to 1/8 buggy and its about 5cm short on wheelbase length, but the width seems to be dead on. I have till late September to commit to this conversion.
About the wheel converison, what would work best to be able to bolt on some pre mounted 1/8 buggy tires from proline.

They make a kit to make the hex a 17 mm ofna style. That would be good for wheels. Is the emaxx 5 cm short or the buggy has to be 5cm shorter.
Peace!

I seen a site where they converted an emaxx to a buggy. I don't remember the size of the buggy. It looked awesome though when finished.

Just the EMAXX is shorter than than 1/8 buggy.
I am a lil worried about the batteries sitting so high. Would be great if the Emaxx had a TUB chassis

IF YOU NEED THE EMAXX 5CM LONGER THAT IS NOT A PROBLEM. I HAVE STRETCHED MIINE 2INCHES FORM GMAXX FORM. THE GMAXX IS 1/4 INCH LONGER THAN STOCK. IF YOU REALL CHOOSE TO BUILD YOU A BOTTOM PLATE TO YOUR OWN LENGTH. THAT WILL LOWER BATTS AND ALL DOWN. I CAN FIND THAT SITE IF NEED BE ON THAT BUGGY BUILD FROM EMAXX IF YOU NEED. GIVE YOU SOME MORE IDEAS. I HOPE IT WORKS OUT FOR YOU.
Peace!

I guess everybody here knows (remembers) The Jang's "Spyder" from URC. Amazing piece of work, especially if you consider it was done right after the EMaxx was released.
Coolhand, no worries, 50 push-ups will do!:L:

Buggies use 17mm hexes. I think ofna makes an adaptor.
CVD's and single speed are the way to go in the drivetrain. Make sure to used diff fluid too.
Use a buggy body. It would look weird with a truck body.

Maximiazer makes an adapter, and I carry them . I made an e-maxx similar to a 1/8 buggy a while back (yellow body with blue flames-seen as a truggy in the picture section). It worked quite well and looked a lot like a 1/8 buggy when it was done, though it handled better due to the wider suspension arms.
