Conversion. - 05.16.2008, 05:20 AM

Anyone seen the latest article in the June "Popular Mechanics" magazine on converting a gas Go-cart? It was done by the Mythbusters. They took a pro Go-Cart and removed the engine converting it to a BL electric powered toy. The conversion and comparison was very similar to what is being done here with nitro conversions, only on a slightly bigger scale. It looked like a fun project and for anyone here who may be getting a little bored with their little projects you might want to do something like this. I haven't checked but I would guess that you could access the magazine story on line. Just thought it was a good story to share on here.

It was actually funny because the comparison was identical to our R/C vehicles. The E-version had extreme acceleration, but the gas engine had more top end.

I have been wanting to build a brushless scooter. I see a lot of little electric scooters with crappy batteries and motors that would probably not be too hard to convert. I figure when I get into a house I will have more space for bigger projects.

I even think you could convert a Goped fairly simply, would really just need to make a good motor mount, it has plenty of space for batteries.
