MGM vs MMM speed runs???? - 06.07.2008, 07:42 PM

Click on my sig for the truck's build thread.

weight 10.5 pounds
Neu 1515 1y
two 2s1p Trakpower lipo
3906 single speed conversion
Revo Talons
1/8 scale buggy diffs
51/20 gearing

MGM Highest speed 33.2 mph
setting:
Car mode <->
light brake
auto timing
reduce rpm
4s li-xx
free wheel
no brake at neutral
no auto correction

MMM higest speed 42.1 mph
setting:
Brake/reverse proportional w/ reverse
Brake 50%
Reverse throttle 40%
Punch 0%
Drag brake 10%
Start power high
Motor timing 10
Throttle curve linear

How can this be? I know my drive shafts rub against my lower spring retaining cups and the tests were do weeks apart. Would less friciton account for almost 10 mph difference?

What version software is in the MGM. Not sure if that would have anythingto do with it, but the older software on some of the MGMs semed to over read the actual current and I wonder if it would limit the top speed.

I think I remember someone else around here saying they had top speed isues with the MGM as well. Its been a shile though and I think it was with the older software that had the incorrect currnt detection calulations in it.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Maybe that is it. It is the older version. I never upgraded because I was getting the MMM.

What? Did you swap the diffs out between these runs?? That seems a little off to me for sure. You sure you didn't change the gear ratio?

No, I change them the first time with the MGM. Yesterday I tested the MMM. Sure sounds like I screwed something up.

I can't believe that. If you are getting only 33mph on a 4s-1515/1Y then something is wrong there. On 8s and a 2y (same rpms then) I get 45mph pretty easy in my Revo.

Something's screwed.

But considering how many MMM are failing at this point, I would hardly call the MMM the winner. (Arct1k's blew in 4mins today.) The MGMs are really nice controllers if you can stand their idiosyncrasies. The build quality are top notch.
