Mounting a Feigao 7XL to Motor Adaptor - 08.15.2008, 03:31 PM

Can anybody tell me the screw size I should use to mount the Feigao 540C 7XL to the motor adaptor? I have been using 2.6x12 screws. One screw seems to hold well, but the other does not. Can I go longer? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Dan

Normal m3 (3mm) machine screws which is why you are having an issue - Dont go longer or you risk hitting the windings - 12mm is pretty long already

I'd say 12mm was too long really, though it depends on the thickness of that mounting adaptor. Tip: screw in the screws until you feel them touching somethng inside the motor- if there is any slack or exposed threads, you need to remove that much from the ends of the screws + another 1 or 2mm. Or use screws that are that much shorter.

7xl, blech. Good luck with her!

I will reiterate, be careful with screw length. If the screws touch the windings inside the case enough to cause a short, it will make short work of your motor and likely the ESC as well.

That said, 7xl is a pretty poor choice of motor for such an application. Hot running and amp hungry. It will be hard on even a tough ESC, and the motor will overheat quite easily. Have you invested in Mike's heatsink clamp ?

7xl, isn't that to bad, I successfully ran it in my gmaxx, with mikes heatsink clamp, on 4s w/ a quark 125b, as well.......never had a issue, it allwyas ran at a good temp.....that being said, I used the gearing that I had on my gmaxx & brians calc as well, and figured out the gearing i would need to use it in the e-revo, using same motor, esc, & lipo's as well.....which is gonna be 20t/68t, and this will yield almost the same specs as I had on the gmaxx, and should run good as well......
