Which charger best suited for me.. - 07.18.2008, 07:52 PM

I'm in the middle of my Mugen project, bought a couple 4S lipos from jhautz, and I need a better lipo charger than I currently have...

I'm thinking about the hyperion's, they seem real nice and they aren't extremely expensive either.

There is a 250 watt hyperion charger that seems the best..but I don't have that kind of cash, because then i'd also need to get a power supply.
This one:

Then I would get the 50 watt charger, but apparently it won't work well charging anything above 4S lipos? Can sombody chime in on that?

Or is there something else that I don't know about there that will work well?

Lastly, anybody got a good charging setup they have for sale then?

Thanks
-steve

Why not a MRC Superbrain 989? Works perfect for me and many other users here as well...

I also purchased a 989, mostly based on recommendations here. After a couple weeks of emailing MRC, and sending back my HV system to Novack for testing (it turned out to be good), I bought a Hyperion. It charged the batteries that my 989 wouldnt. Apparently, it was false peaking.
I bought my power supply used for 20 bucks from a local carpet racer.
Just my .02

I have never owned an MRC charger without issues. The hyperions on the other hand are the finest I have used. I own two and can not say enough good things about them. Easy to use and work flawlessly every time.

mrc 989 is about the best bang for the buck out there, the fan runs alot on the power supply buy i have never had it shut down and mine is now in a case and surrounded by foam on 3 sides

I am still looking at either the Hyp Duo or the 989. I have two 2S 4900 FP Evo25 packs coming, after making a bad choice in packs, that's all I'll say (wish I had found this forum about 3 months sooner) and my biggest hangup with the Duo is not the $280 for the charger but the $100+ I'd have to fork out for the DC. Almost 400 for the whole setup.... ouch. I'm not a racer or even a basher really, so that's one attractive thing about the 989, I could get two of them for 100 less than the Hyp and DC supply. If someone can really sell me on the Duo, then I will cough it up.......

I have the 0610i and I love it it was about $170 and if you are not on a big time frame would work for you (same as the duo but can only charge 1 pack at a time) and with FP packs you can charge at 2c if you want but that can shorten thier life. I use the ofna 18amp PS and it is plenty of power and it is ultra clean cc/cv

I finally started to look at it this way. I was getting to the point where each of my batteries were starting to run a MINIMUM of 50 bucks each (a lot of you guys are running 100 plus). I'd better make certain that the machine that is taking care of them is going to do the best possible job. I also dont race, and only actaully run them once a month at best. Therefore, my charger needs to be able to bring back cells that have been sitting for long periods - something the 989 I had seemed to not like.
