Just finished my Slash/Slayer copycat project, so here's some info:
Basic car: XRay XB8 (old racer, bought as a roller, cleaned and reconditioned)
Motor: Feigao 540 XL 08
Battery: Zippy-H 4S1P 4000mAh LiPo
ESC: Mamba Max with CC BEC
Weight: 3895 grams (8,59 pounds), as ready to drive

Modifications: RCM motor & servo mount, RCM motor heatsink, modified Tekno battery tray, pretty much selfmade or heavily modificated body mounts for Slash body, modified Slash front bumper, selfmade rear bumper mounts from very tough 6mm industrial plastic with E-Maxx bumper and E-Maxx rear skid.

Now if I'd just dare to take this beauty outside...

Sweet conversion. I want to do that to my mbx-5 buggy as we speak. Any clearance issues w/the tires and body rubbing on impact?

Will definetely get some video, hopefully this weekend if it'd just stop raining...

The front bumper is shortened from bottom and bolted straight to the original miniature bumper, upper part is attached to the front shock tower with zip ties atm (not seen on pics) - should really fix that...
Rear skid is shortened a lot and placed to the slot between the chassis & whole rear assembly where the original "bumper" was (see attachement).

Wheel arches are opened quite a bit, no rubbing in any wheel position when suspension is compressed equally - the chassis hits ground before.

I have ordered a thin stock XB8 body, which I'm planning to paint black and place on it's original position (under the Slash body) to protect the insides when driving on dirt.

To my knowledge (and from what I've studied the Traxxas' site) they're the same size.

First test drive with the final car is done now and I'm pretty pleased with the results. Speeds are good and no overheating occurred.

Is that Slash or Slayer body ?

Do you mind if i use a couple of your pics on a local forum i go on down here in Australia . Looks like we might be organizing a CORR class at our track and half of us are going to convert our buggies like you have and the other half are buying the SC8.
This will give the guys some ideas .
Think as soon as the Hot Bodies D8 arrives at my door step i'm converting it .
Hopefully it's not too long before Proline etc start releasing specific CORR tires that handle better than the Traxxas tires.

Yeah, im thinking about converting mine aswell but will run body mounts similar on how the SC8 mounts. Will probably also go with the SC8 body but since the SC8 isn't due till October, i doubt they will make the body before.

The Slash and the Slayer use the exact same body mold. However, they have different cutouts. The Slayer has holes punched in the windshield for air to the engine, and the body mount locations are different.
