gearing - 10.03.2008, 06:27 PM

hey everyone, hopefully someone can help
i ran a feigao 9L in my slash on 3S and 13/40 mod1 gearing and it was perfect but i have now converted my slash to a rustler and im running badlands which are larger than stock tyres
do you think i will need t change the gearing for the rustler? and if so by how many teeth? im unsure of what change i should expect, and i dont want to just buy loads of pinions without a rough idea of what size i will need

A 9l is a good 3s motor, you can probably stick with the 13t and be fine. Maybe go down one tooth if you want. Plugging the values into BrianG's calc (linked in the post above) will get you an approximate speed and then you can change the tire size and gearing to match. I have run 9ls on very heavy pede based 2wd projects and always had great success, even geared for 50+mph!

It shouldn't need to much of a change. If you have a 38 spur gear laying around (Do they even make those? I don't know much about mod1) it should be fine, or a 12 tooth pinion work work too. I really think you would only need to change it if you notice temps above your comfort zone.

the smallest youll get is a 12 on there, thats what i run when i run my badlands and it has just enough adjustment to mesh. but if you dont wanna change youll be fine with 13/40 with the badlands just be prepared because itlll being pushing past 50mph

BUT being dumb one day at college I ran 17/40 with the badlands across the parking lot and i never hit top speed of course but it was interesting when it took flight..... it was prolly running 60 ish and it just flew about head high in the air did about 4 flips and then landed on its lid and slid. should have seen the front and rear tires they are like 7 inches tall and ony maybe an 1/8inch wide piece touching the ground...
