Mamba 4600 - 10.02.2008, 09:50 PM

I am thinking about using a Mamba 4600 in my converted Super RS4. I figure a 3S2P A123 Lipo. Batteries included I think the car weighs 5lbs.

One of our guys is running one on 5S in a converted SRS4 and pulled 106mph on his first run.

It should work ok, I ran a 4600 in a 5 lb. MT2 conversion (3s lipo). I did put a heatsink on the motor to keep things cool. You could probably run it on 4s A123 if you want more speed.

Super RS4
CMS 4600
Mamba Max
2 A123 3S1P wired parrallel for 9.9v and 4600mAh
15t Mod1 pinion
44t spur

Geared for mid 50's.

I looked at Three different motors for this car. The Medusa 36/60, the Neu 1509 and the 4600. The Medusa's have pressed endbells and the 60's have a max of 2000kv. I need a little more. The Neu's while great cost way to much for my budget so I settled on the 4600. Geared right, the 4600 should run well and not tax my batteries like it bigger brother the 7700 did.

Call what you like...... Check out MiamizFinest in the RCUniverse forum. He might have some video. The guy who owns the car is also on RCUniverse, but I forgot his username. It is really not that hard. You can check under youtube under Miamizfinest vids we have a TC4 pulling 99mph on that particular pass. Then, if you look at this vid,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0u6hfgc4y84

you will see a Racer pulling 103mph which is another one of our guys so all we did was pull out the nitro gear and put an adequate electric setup to push the gearing.

may i suggest the 5700, it will be just as toque and alos spin a hair faster. The 5700 is castles fastest motor on terms of rpm per the RATED voltage that can be applied.

I fly, I drive, but most of all I crash.

I run a 4600 on 2s geared for around 45 in my e-jato and it runs fine.

But if you are looking for different motor options, your comparison is a little skewed. If I was to choose among the smaller motors, I would be comparing a CC motor to a Medusa 50mm or Neu 1506 series motors. And if you have an extra couple minutes to read, this is why:

A Medusa 60mm is 10mm longer than the 4600 (50mm), so it's more like an "L" size motor. The Medusa 50mm is "apparently" the same size as the 4600 and has a closer range of kvs. However, the coils of a CC motor do not extend as far as you might think. There is some space reserved for the physical junction of the outside "noodle" wire and the internal coil wires, whereas the Medusa and Neu wires are the motor coil wires and extend directly out of the can. We know that for a given wind count, a shorter coil length will increase KV. So, it makes sense that the CC motors generally have a higher KV than even the Medusa 50mm series despite the fact that both appear the same lengths. The CC motors are more like sub-"S" size motors. Not saying they are "bad", but just making sure you are comparing motors based on common criteria. And a Neu 1509 is longer and larger diameter than a CC motor, so it will be more powerful. A better comparison would be the 1506 IMO - it's a bit shorter at 46mm, but the larger diameter makes up for it.
