Why cant i go full throttle on my rc18? - 04.28.2009, 02:19 PM

can anyone figure why when i press full throttle, the truck wont move at all?
but when i go 30% throttle, then my truck moves. The funny thing is, if i pick up the truck so that the tires are in the air, full throttle works.
This is on a stock rc18mt with a Traxxas tq2 radio and reciever. and i changed the stock motor to a peak raider motor.

i dont see any bad connection anywhere. but i do hear some glitching, would that be the problem? the esc is making beeping noises every few seconds. do these small motors need caps? theres one on there already.
dont tell me i need a fm or 2.4 radio for this crap haha.
if theres a stripped gear somewhere, then i wouldnt be able to get full throttle at all right?
because when the truck is up in the air, all 4 wheels spin very fast.

2 things I see.
A. Recalibrate esc
b. Bad battery that cannot push enough amps when the car is under load. would explain why it would power the wheels fine in the air.

ya i was gonna recaliberate the esc and see if that works. im gonna try it in a few hours when i get home.
it can be the weak battery as well. this truck was bought used, and it came with the battery. who knows how old this battery is.

Definetly recalibrate then check the batteries. I assume you have Nimh battery in there? My 1/10 pan car did exactly what you decribed one time on me and it turned out one of the cells in my battery pack crapped out.

yea, so it is the nimh's. i recab. the esc and same thing. i forgot to mention that i am able to go full throttle, but thats after i go 30% throttle, then when i go full throttle, itll move, but i just cant full throttle from stand still.
im assuming that its the batteries, because the truck only goes like 10mph hahah.
am i able to use lipos with the stock esc?

Yep, just use a small (2000mah or so) 2s pack.

incorrect, you need a low voltage cutoff or alarm.

so if i get a lvc, the stock esc can handle lipos? can i still run lipos even if i dont use a lvc? like if i only wanted to run it for one minute just so i can check out to see if its the nimh problem.
oh do you guys remember the old novak cyclone purple sticker esc? i think it came out in 1999 or something. will that work with lipos as well?
