What KV rating? trying to pick a motor out. - 10.23.2008, 04:54 PM

Well for most 17 yr. olds, money is always tight. I'm no exception. As it turns out, running 6s in my E-Revo will be cheaper than 4s (I'll be running the Zippy 4800 25 c's). I was looking at the castle motor (2200) and realized that I wouldn't be able to control a thing with 6s and that motor. So, what would be a good KV range for me? (I'm looking for speeds in the 45 mph range with out crazy gearing) If it helps, I've been looking at the Medusa motors.

Thanks!

I will spank a nitro any day...guaranteed. :)

I'd think a 36-70-1600 would do quite well on 6S.

I would say read my FAQ, but instead I'll say this:

For a sane setup that will give you useable speeds and power, and better runtimes, aim for a 1600-1800kv motor.

That should allow you to gear up or down a bit to get speeds in and around the 40-50mph region I reckons.

I personally will be after a 2000kv motor for 5s lipo use, and will gear down a touch to compensate for my hefty truck; a lighter truck could be geared taller without placing excessive load on the motor or batts.
