Motor recommendations for 22volts? - 10.22.2008, 09:27 AM

Hello all, im getting back into brushless a bit now, I have the oppertunity to get an MGM 160amp, 18 cell controller or 224amp, 18 cell for a decent price. I will be running 18 nimh cells so just under 22 volts (about the same as 6S) what is the most powerful motor I can run on the 160 amp or 224 amp?

I was thinking just get a 8/9XL as they are so cheap! but i think 18 cells is a bit much, plus the output is not really enough.

it'll be going in a 1/8th...... truggy maybe and ideally needs to be more powerful than my maxx, plettenberg bigmaxximum 1800 watts :)

Thanks in advance!

You could buy one of my Lehner 1950/12s... they are absolute beasts on 6S.

But NiMH? Come on! just kidding

I would get a tekno Neu 1515 2.5d (http://www.impaktrc.com/product_info...oducts_id=3582) if you are racing.. if you just bash maybe the Tekno Neu 1515 1y (http://www.impaktrc.com/product_info...oducts_id=2620) or go with a 70mm Medusa v2 motor (1600kv) if you are on a budget.. (2000kv rated for bashing) it's not as good as the Neu, but it's still a great motor also maybe the 80mm if you are not racing and want more power.

The lehner is rated 3000 watts on 24 cells is it not? so on 18 thats 2250watts? i might have this wrong :)

and both the Neu 1515's are 1500 Watts Continuous, 2700Watts - 30sec. whatever that means! is there nothing slightly bigger?

I use a 1521/1Y with 6S lipos and it's basically overkill. The 1515/2.5D mentioned above will do very well and so will the Lehner.

The 1521 1y might be too much for nimh cells. Not to sure what it can draw, but nimhs are not that hot when it comes to higher amp draws. I would stick to the 1515 2.5d, should make more power than the plett maxx. My 1515 1.5d makes more power than my plett maxx, both on 4s lipo.

ok I can accept that, and the difference between the 1515 1.5d and 1y is ones a lower KV? i'll look into that then.

Arct1k are you selling the 1515 to upgrade? plus if you can pm me a price :)

IMO the 1515/2.5d would give you the most effecient system, if you go with a higher kv motor it will run hotter ( the 2.5d is 1600kv)

All 1515 have the same dimensions, the 2.5d is lower kv than the 1.5d and will be much better with those nimhs you plan to use.

Geez candyman, it's been a while! Still on NiMh I see... That will be the limiting factor for power output here. For reference a good 6s 5000mah pack will be able to push peaks past 3500watts, while 18 NiMh cells will be hard pressed to reach 2500watts.

1515, 2.5d all the way, it,s a beast on 6s.
But be very carefull with you MGM 16018, it,s more a 5s controller than a 6s.
It,s rate for 18 eclls NiMh, so 21.6 volts, and a fully charge 6s lipo is 25.2 volts.

I
The new 16025 Z serie seam to be rated higher on voltage.

Good luck.

Welcome back Candyman2, you are one of the ones i followed into the brushless world. I to suggest the 1515/2.5d, awsome power on 6s. I have a 4 year old revo converted to G2R gorilla setup (3 years december for the conversion) still had the origional driveshafts till a month ago, twisted one on 6s with the 1515/2.5d. You will be more than satisfied with the power of the Mighty Neu

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Thanks for the info. I agree the limit will be the discharge of the nimh's, still I agree 2500 watts will probably be the limit for them. Im using good cells, candyman keeps it old skool with nimh! thing is I already have a few packs, plus I can pick up a set of 3 x 6 matched cells so cheap and make an awesome 18 cell pack for very little, seems better than switching to lipo.

I dont think the mgm will be a problem, the peak voltage on 6s may go too high but nimh stay pretty stable i think.

Ok im going for the mgm 18, 160. Im still struggling with the price of the Neu's ! hope they are worth it.
