NEW SO-Cal WORD! - 12.20.2008, 06:02 AM

Well being the Hip & mega cool DAD that I am I'm always trying to learn and keep up with the “in things” in the OC and recently I learned the following:

The pups today average age 19-26 appears to have replaced our word (COOL and Bitchen) with the following word:

Chill.. (example)
That’s cool.. NO that chill..

That is bitchen! NO! that’s chill

Don’t know if I like it?? I'm thinking not! But I'm trying to be my parents at the same time, DAM it sucks being40!..

Do you think we should change the name from cool and bitchen to chill???

What words have you heard that are questionable??

Nothing!.. Hahahahaaa..

That's not a new word, perhaps just resurfaced. I grew up in the OC in the 80's and we used Chill then.

Hey bro, that game is pretty chill.

I just saw this movie, it was chill man.

It was a chill session at Brook St. this morning.

It is a stoner surfer driven slang that dates back a few decades now. Not that I was a stoner surfer as a teenager growing up on the beach in so cal or anything....

I don't hear chill up here in central cali, but I am surprised about how much some of my friend throw around inappropriate words without thinking.

"Sweet" is just a tad played out too.

Just "Chill-lac" about it. That's how I hear it now.

40 is the new 30 but it's still tough to stay hip & megacool and roll with the young pups these days Shaun. I know b/c I'm trying to do the same thing.

I see alot of things "coming back" and then alot of things that have really changed. But then sometimes I just have to scratch my head and go, "WOW, the kids these days, what are they thinking?".

Then I like, totally feel 40 years old again fer sure dude.

I think chill is resurfacing again... I am hearing it a lot more. A lot of people use dope though... as in, "Your new ride is pretty dope dude." Although mainly the stoners use that word. Also, prime is another word used, which I personally like. Prime in this sense is like perfect. The steak can be perfect, but it can also be prime. If a track is perfect, its also prime. Ex: That open lot would be prime for a track. Ex: That take off for the jump is as prime as they come.

Cajun???? I am British (I have lived in southern Louisiana most of my life though, but no french in me...and I don't want any either.)

Chill is lame. I prefer the term gangster.

EG: What cha think about dat chic over der? She is quite gangster!

It is mainly something I say in order to make fun of the rampant hip hop culture that the youger dumbasses seem to be embracing. They sound like a bunch of morons, I can't help making fun of them, to their face! WORD! (lil' bit from the 90's boiiiii!)

Me too, getting way too close to 30...

I also like "slick" that is a good word to describe stuff that is badass or gangster, and you don't sound like a huge moron saying it. Chill is just lame, it only works if you are using it as a command to someone who is freaking out. EG. "Chill out you crazy bastard!!!"

Man, thats right up there with bona fide for stupid words. Legitimate is a decent word, but has no place as some sort of slang. We have a fried chicken chain down south called Popeyes, and they had some commercial that was claiming their chicken was "bona fide"... how the hell can you have counterfeit or fraudulent fried chicken??? Put fish inside instead of chicken? Some of these ad people need shooting, most commercials are just playing on peoples stupidity (plenty around these days). Look ,bona fide chicken! Its sitting on some bona fide concrete...

Face it, we have a culture of completely stupid people. They know everything about the lives and inner workings of Britney Spears and Ashton Kutcher but nothing about anything that actually matters.

I don't worry about pop culture and the idiot slang that goes with it. Chillaxin sounds like something I would say when I was smoking dope because I was too stoned to get the real words out.
