Every project garage has to start somewhere. 12/26/08

The wife and I have been planning on buying a house one day but the economy is so shaky that you never know what you'll have to do. So during this time as allot of people do, we have been living in an apartment which now a days isnt too bad since its cheaper than a house and apartments are pretty huge in space now. In every apartment we have been in the wife is always wanting that spare bedroom in case we have guests. but as long as I have been in RC and married, I have always had to store my things in a crawl space, closet, storage space or somewhere out of site. In that time we have had her parents stay the night ONCE during that entire time. So when we moved out here to Montana 2 years ago. I finally decided to make the spare bedroom my work area and still keep it available if it was needed for company. About 6 months after I moved here I built an inexpensive paint booth, basically threw it together in a couple of hours and it served its purpose but it was never contained to the point of keeping the paint 100% in the booth. So last week I rebuilt my paint booth which is 99% contained with an evacutation system that I built with a fan and in line filters and as far as building and working on my RC's go, well I built a bench with a removable light box so I could work on my projects there or prep a shell for painting. Well anyways, you have to make due with what ya got. All in all, I run a clean shop and keep all my stuff easy to get to and the wife enjoys it because its not an eye sore when company has to stay the night.

That's a very nice painting booth. I see you put some run time on your TK, does it go as good as it looks?

Way to lay down the law! "Honey, can I have a paint booth?" "No." "Well that's tough! I want a paint booth and if you wont buy me one I'm just gonna build one in the guest bedroom. How do ya like that? Oh, and I stole one of your closets for the rest of my RC stuff, too!"

Looks good!

So nice that you are allowed to have a "hobby" closet too.

I guess I'm pretty lucky, my master bedroom is my hobby room.

Can I write the foreword to that book?

I guess I do have it made, my 600 sq foot hoddy hole (no windows) is stuffed with crap, but i like to keep stuff. It would take me a month on nights just to list everything up there on ebay... And the wife just sakes her head when she goes up there, HA. I am planning to redo the a/c unit for the office downstairs, and that will free up a fair amount of sapce, so I should be able to get the hobby section of the room down to just a few hundered square feet...

3six, I like the paint booth, and your stuff looks very organized, maybe one day I could do the same with mine...(wishful thinking)

Very nice setup for an apartment. Glad to see I am not the only one who's wife relegates their rc stuff to a hall closet! Seriously though my wife is very understanding for the most part. Your setup does prove you don't need the greatest of everything to do nice work.

Well for paint, I do have some very nice expensive airbrushes. and a vet good reliable air compressor. it took a couple of years till I figured out what I did need and what I didnt. As far as RC's go, well I love em man. If I could have them all I would. But I am sure i would get bored of some of them too. So i just have what I need to enjoy myself. it makes no sence to load up on things that I dont have the time to do. its a hobby!, Not a hording catolog for RC collectors.
