Question Fastest possible ST on a 3s pack?? - 12.12.2005, 11:27 PM

OK, i was looking for recommendations on what would produce the fastest stadium truck on a 3s pack. i am runing a modifed street-able t4 truck. currently the race ready weight with a 2s pack is 3lbs 0.6oz. i am still running the mgm80 and a 6s motor, but i am looking to see if there is anything faster right now? i am gonna up it to a 3s pack for those very short high speed runs. any suggestions appreciated.
thanks

So this would just be for high speed runs? If so, a Lehner Basic 5300 should be a good motor. 3s Lipo would be too much to run continuously with the 5300, though. If you are looking for a motor to run all the time with 3s Lipo, the Basic 4200 or Feigao (540 or 380) 9s would be good choices

I was able to get my Jato to 37MPH on 2s lipo with 19/54 gearing, stock tranny, MGM 12012 and Lehner Basic xl4200 motor. I never tested the speed with 3s, but I expect it would have been about 50MPH.
The xl4200 didn't even break a sweat.

yeah, its just for speed runs. i have had the t4 up to 48mph with a gps on top so realistically its getting about 50-51mph on the 2s lipo. i dont remember the gearing right off the top of my head but its not too overgeared cuz it will still spin the truck out of control off the line. i am looking to get 60-70mph out of the t4 before i am done. i think once i go with some custom tire/wheels i should be able to get about 55out of it and will have alot more stability.

The best way to go for high speeds like that would be a slower motor and higher voltage. I took my Rustler to 56.5mph with a Feigao 540 12s and 4s Lipo. With this setup, the motor probably wasn't even getting to 40,000RPM, but I still got that speed. With 5s Lipo, it would have been even faster, and it would have been spinning clower to 50,000RPM.
So, if you can run 4s-5s Lipo, then the Feigao 540 12s is a great motor!

well i am trying to stay at a max of 3s since my charger wil only do up to 3s and i dont plan on running those packs enough to justify a new charger.

You could use a Feigao 8s, but that will cause the motor to spin close to 48,000RPM, which is past the best efficiency point, which would cause the motor to heat up. It looks like Mike has the Wanderer 10s, which would be a pretty good motor on 3s Lipo. It won't be THE fastest, but you could gear up to get some pretty decent speed. I can tell you that I am happy with the speed of my Rustler using a Feigao 12s on 3s Lipo, and my motor doesn't spin as fast as the 10s.

i may check it out, but i figure 50mph (gps) on a 2s isnt too bad. a 3s with some of the other mods i have/will be doing should kick me to almost if not over 60mph. i would just like to see that 70 mark just for bragging rights

I used a lehner 5300 to get my Traxxas bandit to well over 60mph and that was on 9.6 volts(8 GP3300s).Which are very heavy and this was with a GPS strapped on also.

A 3s lipo would really be pushing a 5300 but I am sure you could get close to 70.
