Anyone still use a Mamba Max? - 02.24.2009, 11:17 PM

So does anyone still use a MM in conversions? I used one with a Rx pack in my revo running 3s lipo on my mega motor. I am about to get 4s lipo and havent used it in a while. I really dont have the money to spend on a MMM or similar ESC. With what Im geared my truck is tuned for just at 40mph on 4s lipo with my Mega. Its rated for only 70a max. Anyone know a good ESC for cheap or should I just keep using my MM?

MM is fine, or get one of those hobbywing 80a jobs from Mike.

Yeah, the MM is still a good ESC, especially if chassis real-estate is limited. Yeah, you need a UBEC or rx pack over 2s, but it's still smaller than a MMM, not to mention the EZR80.

Yeh I looked into the hobbywing one but it is too big for me... Since I run a converted revo, teh ESC mounts on top of the tranny. If I could mount it lower somehow I would and id get the tank since its cheap and made to run 1/8, but I worry about crushing it with it sitting so high. And wonder if it will work well with my 6pole motor

I run them in 2 cars on 4s, e-revo, and a sportworks turmoil. Both have ubecs, and fans. They seem to handle it fine, and havn't given me any problems.

from my expierence the MM I have in my Rustler has been a lot more dependable than the 2 MMMs I have had died in revos and the setup I have in the Rustler I think is more extreme than the Revos have been

Yeh I guess Im just gonna buy a good fan instead of dropping the money on a new ESC. can pick up a fan and a cap for like $20. Would a good high power cap help or a waste of $3?

A cap will not hurt. Neither will a fan, but I suggest running it carefully without the fan just to see how it does(temp regularly). My experience with fans is that they go wrong, and if your MM needs the addl cooling and the fan craps out, well you may thermal, or worse...

Just a word of caution.

The MM is a great esc. I have 7 or 8 of them at the moment, and have owned at least 12 and have only had one failure.

Yeah, I've had 4 MMs and have had only 1 fail due to my error and have been using on 2s-5s.

Well I will see if I can find a temp gun from someone at the track or something to check out temps.

I have my MM as well, and it's still going strong. Does get hot though since I'm using the fan on something else.
