EK4 Conversion - 02.24.2009, 12:39 PM

The Pro.70 Motor in my EK4 continues to serve me well but whole "huge motor, simple chassis" concept itself is a dinosaur
Rather than sell it or trash it though I've moved the engine to the display cabinet and i converted the roller to Brushless.
It'll upset the EK4 purists but what the heck

Last pictures of it in Nitro mode

It put up a fight, but this RCM Motor Mount for the ST1 is in place. A lot of drilling, slotting and cussing contributed.
I hoped that it would be a slot-in deal as TTR are famed for being lazy and carrying over parts from old designs to later cars, but this time looks like they had other ideas

Kershaw battery tray. 8XL motor. 12T pinion. UE-type mounts for steering servo.

The front diff needs a rebuild and I have parts on order. Until then I'll test on 2WD.

The gearing on the EK4 is pretty low and after calculations I worked out that to simulate the 17,500rpm/18T pinion combo of the Nitro version, a 10T pinion/8XL/4S would be similar. I used a 12T pinion as a start point figuring the low end torque of the 8XL will pull through.

I always thought the EK4's were sick trucks back in the day. Even today I still want one but their card to find and when you can find one their pricey.

I still have my display queen EK4 I made up some years ago. I've left informal instructions that I am to be buried with it

Oh yea, the MGT is a true Monster Truck, absolutely nowhere near an EK4, which is itself arguably the first Truggy

Here's a few pics of an MGT project I did which included installation of a pro.70 Heli motor

Decided 4S isn't enough to make the EK4 behave like the animal it was.

So out with the Mamba Max and in with a Monster and 5S/6S.

Can't wait for some dry roads to test

I never liked the MGT. Reminds me to much of a larger t-maxx...
