MMM mounting - 03.07.2009, 05:30 PM

I've just got my MMM through the post (thanks George16) and I know mounting them is often a problem. I was thinking that, why don't you just remove the bottom of the case, drill 4 holes in the corners ~2.5mm and tap them with an M3 tap. You could use thin nuts to secure the screws as there is plenty of space inside. Then just screw it to wherever it needs to go with a bit of servo tape just in case. Don't know if this has been tried before, but I'd of thought that this would be the best way to mount it securely.

I think it was tried before but be very careful when opening the ESC. Castle actually have a "How to open" procedure to lower the risk of damaging something. Even with this type of mod, you still have the chance of popping it off through the tabs but you can prevent it by taping the bottom and top case together.

I have my MMMs held by indusrial strength velcro with a ziptie and it works really well.

Glad to hear you received the ESC.

Sounds like an idea. Might be tricky, but could work well.

I gotta admit though...my MMM is just velcro'd down using industrial velcro, and after quite a few hard crashes, rolls and landings, the case isn't showing any signs of wanting to come apart. Must just be me, but mine seems very solidly held together by the clips. Everyone else seems to have problems with the case coming apart, but no problems here.

No, I mean holding it to the car - not too worried about the case coming apart - going to have a cable tie (zip tie) around it to stop that. The only reason I thought of it is, as a racer, I don't like anything not screwed down, and that is what always bothered me about electric racing - one big crash, and out go all your expensive electrics.

I used a revo steering link with a piece of fuel tubing in the center, across the middle of the MMM. Then I ran longer screws down the sides into the chassis. I was using the Losi kit on an 8ight.

So you don't reckon there's much point in screwing it down the way I suggested? Just get some good double sided tape and a zip tie or two, and that'll be alright - ok, guess it is also easier than drilling holes and stuff into the Mamba.

Cheers guys
Simon

That's pretty much what I've done, I'll put a build thread with piccies up soon. Getting Mike's bits for it this Friday, after I've paid the extortionate customs charges. Already got 2 4S Flightpower Lipos 4350mAh 25C, a 5S Tornado 3700 mAh Lipo 22C, and a 6S Flightpower 3200mAh 20C (may sell this one though...). I've also got my MMM - I hadn't realised just how big it was! I've never seen such a massive speedo! How big must those Hobbywing Speedos be!?!

That is very nicely done...
I just don't have enough space on my chassis to do that...
