My son's crawler - 02.07.2009, 11:10 AM

Well, I bought my son an Axial AX 10 ARTR crawler as a reward for consistently having good grades and of course, doing his chores.

Here are some pictures:

My daughter playing with the Gmaxx:

Trying to run away with the crawler :

Sidewinder ESC and Integy 55T motor. I didn't realize Integy gets their motor from Japan. I could have just bought one here because it's cheaper. I'm running a 3S 2250mah lipo on this truck:

Video from this afternoon's bashing/crawling:

It was his first time running it and he had a blast. He was playing on a hillside concrete embankment .

The sidewinder esc seems to work rather well! It is nice to see the kids involved in their Dad's obsession.. I am introducing my 10 yr. old to the hobby...her crt.5 is in my sig...

I hope your son truly enjoys the new truck...he seems to have earned it!

I love the pic. of your daughter holding the truck...truly priceless.

Thanks. I like climbing the same wall he's playing on and makes me want to get my own crawler.

My next project (for myself) will be a Berg crawler.

Update.

I mounted the Sidewinder ESC and 3S lipo. I made a servo and battery plate using a piece of 5mm polycarbonate plate.

I also repositioned the lower links to get more articulation. I put a 6mm orange spacer where the shock used to be and I installed the other on of the links on the inside of the transmission skid. The more centered the links, the greater the articulation.

Why are you using a 3s lipo? Isn't 2s good enough? Wouldn't a 1s2p be perfect? (I don't know much about crawlers btw)

It's perfect for the Sidewinder and 87/14 gearing. At least it's not too slow for my son's driving .

I plan on doing the same with the links on my crawler .

metallover a lot of people use 3s so they can get wheel speed. This can be helpful at times on climbs from what i hear .

I bet your son was happy to get that! When you go for a berg, save some cash and just get the axles. Or get the hot racing knockoffs.

Thanks. By the way, do you ship to a military address?

I'm now torn between the Berg and the Kyosho Rockforce.

I can ship to APO

The rockforce has a lot of issues, including a very inefficient driveline. Again, I would only buy the axles.

Yet another transformation of my son's crawler. I bought a TCS Edge tube chassis in order to not use a body. It'll be a lot cheaper in the long run. The tube chassis looks better too.

Anyway, here are some pictures:

That looks so much meaner than when it had a body! Very nice

Thanks Magman.

I just reinstalled the stock proline hammers since it looks better than the badlands.

Here's a couple of flex shots. I really like this full droop setup.
