I believe its supposed to soften up the plastic to give it a little more flex and be less prone to breaking. Correct me if im wrong please.

I've always liked to throw some rit-dye in when I boil some plastic parts for the fun of it.

Add some chicken, soup stock, fresh vegetables and some noodles and you have a recipe for some pretty nice soup

on a serious note... its a good idea to use a strainer while boiling your parts. It prevents them from touching the sides of the pot, which could get hot enough to melt the plastic.

There's two sides to every schwartz, he got the up side and I got the down side.

Yes, make sure that you boil your lipos too. And the charger, and if the pot is big enough throw your radio in, and a toaster. Make sure that you can fit a toaster in there. And put a pop tart in the left slot of the toaster, with the sugar coating facing the center of the toaster. This is very specific, do not mess it up or the space travel will be out of the question.

Boiling plastic parts or dying plastic changes the water content of the plastic. This adds more water to the plastic which in turn makes the part more flexible which can help with breakage but depending on the part may not be a good idea, for example, shock towers. (google)
