PiStix back on market soon - 03.18.2009, 12:42 PM

Just got an e-mail from Mike at Mikes Sub Works. They bought the rights to the PiStix and are re-releasing it.
http://www.mikessubworks.com/whats_new.html

"Thank you for your interest in the PiStix. The boards are at our assemblers currently, and then we just need to program them. We anticipate a March 31st release date."

They allow you to use a pistol grip radio with an airplane ESC without modifying endpoints or the throttle trim on you radio. It converts the 1.5ms neutral pulses from a car radio to 1ms pulses that airplane ESCs see as neutral.

Hey MM, do you think I could use 1 Pistix to run 2 identical air escs? Just wondering as I have one laying around. I guess I would have to program the escs seperately to the radio, then connect them via the y cable, right?

I was toying with making a similar device, but never went with it. The algorithm is pretty simple really, just take the pistol radio signal pulsewidth in ms, subtract 1ms, then multiple that by 2. Just use a floor value of 1ms to prevent the signal from going below 1ms when applying the brake. The result is a throttle signal that varies from 1ms to 2ms when fed a signal that varies from 1.5ms to 2ms.

That's sweet! Good news for those of us that will be using air ESCs in a ground RC (I hate stick controllers, it would suck to have to use an air controller).

All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.

Makes sense to me- one end goes to the throttle channel on the rx, the other goes to a Y-splitter that then goes to each esc.

Here's the latest from Mike.

"I have the pistix but have run into a small glitch. I'm currently working on it and hope to have it resolved shortly.
Dealer pricing is availible with a minimum order of (6) units. We're close to getting these widgets out so you might want to place your order to get on the top of the list. I already have 1 solid order and 1 pending... So as they say, strike while the iron is hot.
Thanks,
Mike Shubar
