I was wanting to know the least amount of cells I could run on a 9xl. I am going to try to put it in my custom stampede with a 7018. My pede has an all metal tranny with cvd's and a custom cf chassis so I'm thinking with the correct gearing I could keep the tranny intact. I will be using 32 pitch gears. I do have a 32 tooth pinion. ;)

I belive it can run on 12 any less and it wouldn't be too powerful, consider a 8s or 8L if you want something bigger?

Get some pictures up of that custom work too! :D

I have the 8s in my evader st and am very happy with it. A buddy of mine has a 9xl for sell. Everyone runs an "s" in their stadium trucks, I WANT MORE POWER!!!:D I will post pics too.

The 9xl is too heavy to run in the rear of the stampede. Coolhand_Country tryed it and said it nearly wheelied standing still, he never ran it in the Stampede

I can imagine, lol.

Even if you could fit a 9XL, cells would be all over. Can imagine you would need alot of weight at the front to counter it.

In stock form, yes. I however will be using a custom extented chassis. Fitting the cells will not be a problem. I have a 1/12 scale chassis on my pede right now and I fit 12 cells on that. I should not have said "pede", it is actually a rustler tranny and front suspension connected by maxx chassis braces. I use carbon fiber sheet sitting on the braces for the chassis. Then connect the front and rear ends of the chassis to the bulks with standoffs. It should be 2 inches longer than stock. Widepede conversion is already done. I will post pics of my progress.

I dont think you'll like the 9xl for that application. Xl motors like lots of cells. You be much better off with an 8 or 9L and 12 or 14 cells. That should get you in the 50's easy. The xl motors can push heavy MT's to 60+.

I used a 7xl not a 9xl. I did not get a chance to run it. :( May be i try again later. ;)

Thanks, thats what I was wanting to know. So the 9xl is not efficient on 12 cells? Whats the least I can run? My only limiting factor I see is how much my drivetrain can take which should be quite a bit.

It will run fine on 12 cells, but you wont have many rpm's to work with. You will have to run some high gears to get any speed, maybe even custom gearing. Not sure what kind of speed you want.

You need a 50 tooth spur and a 21 tooth pinion or something similar to that ratio. Final drive ratio should be 6.5 and on 10 cells, you will get you 45-50 mph. It will be interesting to see how this system accelerates. I don't know how much throttle control you will have with a 22000 rpm motor.

That will be A LOT of power for a Stampede. I would suggest not using more than a L motor, as the end of the motor will easily get hit (even my S motor's end gets hit occasionally). A good motor for 12 cells is the Feigao 540 12s, which is a motor capable of pushing a light E-Maxx. This happens to be the motor I use in my Rustler, and on 4s Lipo in a very small space it pushed the truck to 56.5mph. On only 3s Lipo with conservative gearing (could go up 2 teeth or more and still have good temps) it hits 34.5mph. On good batteries, it will also wheelie (the lower COG Rustler) like crazy. This motor is lighter weight than the L motors, is less prone to being hit by something (from sticking out), and is still an awesome motor.

Good point about it being more prone to damage. My main reasons for thinking of the 9xl are that I might get one cheap and I only have the 7018. I do have 32, 24, 21 tooth 32 picth pinions I could use.
