NEU MOTORS : Lost quality and bad design !!! - 04.09.2009, 10:47 AM

Ok BrianG , I'm sorry you are right, I have change some things because it wasn't so correct ... I was so disappointed, then...
And because I'm sorry I will post you many things it happen to me from the beginning, and I think you will have a loud laugh, the last bad thing I have is an Esc out or order !!!! Then I have to be honest too, I think I'm a total unlucky man, will explain later...
Corrected post :
Hi, I have a new Neu 1515/1.5D/F with the new design ! As you maybe know now, the new model has a front end cover which is a different part as the motor can !!! I have seen after only 3 times of use, that this front end cover is moving because it's hasn't been tighten well by Neu ! There is a little screw to prevent unscrewing but this screw was not tighten too ! I decided to fix the front end cover with Loctite but I have to drill an other hole for the little screw ( wich prevent unscrewing ). I want to do it myself, but I'm afraid ! I have send a message to Neu and like everybody, they said me to send them my motor !!!
I have seen now the front bearing seems to be out too ( wear, play ) !!!
How do you want to fix a motor via this front end cover without any issue !!!!
What will I do ? Send my motor to Neu, like many people, because their bearings are bad !!! I know a problem with bearing is possible but they will have too, to drill my motor to fix the little screw who prevent unscrewing and I'm very septic with this can design... A guy said , they are great with customer service... I know they can change me the front bearing if it has a problem, but is anybody of you had already received and test the new bearing ? Is it ok now ? !!! Only them can change a bearing ? It's an embarrassing situation to send them, but not to send us the bearing ! I'm so furious because I have seen it run well and I know this Neu it really powerfull....but those motors are very expensive, and this new design is a total error !!!

Wow, calm down dude. I understand your frustration, and it's unfortunate that you had this happen, but Neu is willing to help you out. Some companies just tell you it's your fault or don't even respond to you. It may be true that the new design is not as good, but I'm sure they will address the issues as they arise.

As far as bearing problems go; it's kind of irrelevant. The motor design itself is really good, but they may have gotten a bad batch of bearings. Who knows? Again, they are fixing the issue.

If you still feel that strongly about this, I would suggest getting it fixed and then selling it when you get it back. Ranting posts like this don't help the situation, except to get it off your chest.

I have 2 and love them both. I had one grenade on me before, sent it back to Neu and they replaced it no questions asked and had it back in my hands in 3 weeks....since then, no worries.

To be honest I am too not realy impressed in NEU case design and build quality. Not big difference with Medusa build quality but big difference in price. In my view Castle-NEU is far beter.

Send it to Neu, let them fix it. Sell it, you'll prob find a buyer on this forum. They're not hard to sell here as everyone loves them (minus you?).

The new Neu motor can design is inferior to the old one I do agree. I sent in my 3 year old 1515/2.5D for new bearings and to have a PM done on it. I figured after 3 years of steady use it was time. Neu told me they didnt even have bearings any more for that old design and that they needed to change the whole motor can if I wanted new bearings, so I agreed for an extra $10. No big deal.

When I got the motor back I saw that it was this new 3 piece can design with the front plate being threaded in and then a set screw holding it in place. I was a bit disapointed knowing the the old solid can design was certainly going to be more robust. But I have bee running it with the new case design for a couple months now and havent personally had an issues yet.

However I do agree syveris, the old soild can design was much better.

I hope that Neu gets you sqared away and running again quickly. I really do think that they are stll the coolest running and most efficient motors out there so hopefully once you get a motor that stays together the motor performance will change your mind.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Hi, lincpimp,
I have send you some pictures of this motor here :

http://sylveris.free.fr/Serie2.html
Link works now...

I know why bearing are out now, and why they don't want to send us an other bearing !!!
The problem is a clearness now : It's due to the bended shim which is mounted on the shaft to prevent wearing ( play ) , and I think there is a conflicting with this shim and this type of bearing. Some users and me can find a little play on the bearing but just in case : when you push the shaft, you can find side by side wear ( play ) ! "When you push on the shaft", but behind there are the shims and one of it lean on the bearing... Is it not to hard for the bearing ? I think this type of bearing is not made to have some weight apply on it like this ?
I have order a pack of tapers M2.5x0.45 for blind holes and I will try to drill myself 4 holes for the unscrewing like losi motors. My front cover wasn't tighten enough and I have turn it 45° more, 1/8 turn !!! Then because I have to drill an other hole, I will do 4 ones, and put 4 screws to retain the front cover. I think I will find too, some little shims to take out the bended hole and to search myself the right wear ( play) to keep between the gold shims and the bearings, and of course new high speed bearings.
Just look at this link and don't forget this was the last year !!!! :
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=837325
There are some questions about the bearings...and steve Neu explain that they have problems with bearing quality, but this was last year, and many people say that there's again many problems...
