Insides of a Plett heli motor -
05.19.2009, 02:04 PM
Plettenberg HP300/20/A4
Just picked this up, and I figured I would post a few pics of it for all of you to eyeball. Very interesting motor, lots o poles, and a built in fan (run Brian G!). Has an almost completely hollow rotor core, looks to be made up of 3 disks, 1 for each end and 1 for support in the center, kinda like a drum/barrel. Those 3 disks have holes drilled in them to further lighten them. The can is also very lightweight. Construction quality seems very good, as has been the case with all of the plett motors I have owned.
740kv, and it has a 5mm shaft and std 540 bolt spacing for 3mm screws. I plan to run it in a buggy on 10s lipo. Not sure about the power, but should be comparable to a 1907 neu, so around 900-1000watts potential. So also comparable to a 1509-1512. Given the light rotor and multipole it should spin up fast and have lots of torque!

Btw, linc, don't you have enough spare in that drawer that have yet to be touched? You'll need to expand to a second drawer next...

Yes you are... and I am still laughing on the mouth breather comment, some nasal decongestant may help that out...

Back on topic: Motor looks quite interesting, but it looks like a rock could get caught in the fan, between the case causing the motor to seize possibly frying the motor/esc. I'm skeptical of the design, but if it works, looks like it could become a very good design.
Back off of topic: Hand porn is a very eery topic, one minute you're talking about motors, the next minute everyone is giving everyone high-fives!
(There's a joke in there I think is very funny, first one to find it gets a prize!)

Good point, Ian. Maybe use as a crawler would be all right, but I'd be worried about debris otherwise.
As far as the joke- I get it. "High five" But you're young and still growing. You'll see 6, maybe even 7!

The plett is a high-pole motor though. Wouldn't cogging be an issue since it's non-sensored?
[joke] But I thought it was brought to me by the letter 4! [/joke]
