8ight-t Brushless Setup Pics - 06.17.2009, 01:45 PM

Could some of you guys post some pics of your 8ight-t? I want to see how you setup and routed cable, placed the ESC stuff like that. I am waiting for my Tekno RC V3 and Losi Electric Conversion kits to come, as well as my Mamba Monster 2200kv combo. I am new to 1/8 RC, about 6 months, only other experience i had was with Helis. I just want to make sure that when everything shows up that i am 100% ready on what i am going to need to do. Thanks!

yeah, my main concern is where to mount the ESC, good new tho! my Mamba Monster came in today along with my Losi electric conversion kit. Im still not sure if i want to use that or the Tekno RC V3 kit. I like the ideal of a Electric Clutch system. anyone have any thoughts on it?

use the esc mount built into the battery tray....

Use the stock chassis, Mike's mount, Mikes battery tray custom so that you can mount the ESC in the back of it, and Mike's slipperential.

just use zip ties to hold the esc down. i've also seen some people take the esc mount off the e-revo bl edition and use that. just drill holes for the screws, take a look at shark413's build thread in the truggy section.

Here's mine. if you aren't very comfortable with too much mods just stay with Tekno stock setup.

good call mentat.

you are much better off going with either tekno kit or kit from mike. my buddy made a good analogy the other day about the major brand conversions that have recently come out. he called them "bandaids".

meaning that when losi, AE, and a few other companies saw the money coming in on 1/8 brushless conversions they saw a need to "cash in" and so they came up with a quick fix product that worked on their existing products. nobody has taken the time yet to actually build an electric-specific chassis.

however, both Tekno and RCM have been doing the brushless thing for years and do have complete systems built from the ground up for brushless setups. they are much better kits than anything you could get from the major brands right now.

perhaps next season we will see actual electric kits made by the big brands but right now you have to be careful. there are some serious junk conversion kits out there. kids are probably getting screwed left and right. wanting to try the new brushless craze only to be disappointed because of getting setup with an inefficent setup.

i am not saying that losi and ae conversion kits are junk. they do the job well and hold their own on the track but i definetly think these guys who have been doing it longer provide a better product.

here is an example of some crap i have seen though. my buddy brought his inferno gt to the track to show me the conversion. i am sure it is a fun car but it had the motor and the battery on the same side of the car and the battery was mounted completely on the mudguard. not on the chassi and hanging over the mudguard. it was actually mounted on the mudguard. this was a kit by fine design or something. anyway, i guranatee that inferno handles like crap and totally inconsistent. the fact that a company can call that a conversion and their company "fine designs" at the same time is a joke.

anyway, you just got to watch what your getting i guess is my point.

yes you make a very good point. I just got thru putting back the Losi electric conversion kit in the package, apparently you can only use their plastic 45t spur gear because its small. i was unable to use my 48t steel spur gear from the stock 8ight-t 1.0 race roller kit because it was a bit larger in diameter. The Losi kit doesnt use the slots in the chassis for the spur gear, they use a plastic mounting surface that sits ontop of the chassis which give their smaller 45t plastic spur gear just enough clearance to run in the center diff mounts. LAME. waste of 79.99. I bought the Tekno for 69.99 with a chassis. i mean come on LOSI what are you trying to pull here. Im going to do a whole write up i think with pics on this issue. crazy.

I like having the mechanical brakes and front/rear bias option so I didn't bypass that great option w/ the tekno brushless kit. I did mount my ESC up on a top plate that works perfect in the 8ight-t 1.0, it maybe tight w/ the new body style of the 2.0. This keeps the ESC VERY protected as we quite often are running in muddy conditions. I would stay far away from the electri-clutch, but that's just me, I've had two of them break and cause my motors bearings to fail because of it so I only run long shank pinions now and love it, ZERO issues. (these are really old photo's)
