MMM No workie! - 06.08.2009, 02:05 PM

Hi folks! Maybe y'all out there might have a clue as to what happened to my MMM.

Now, I haven't had a response yet...and its fine. Only been a few hours, but like to see what you more experience folks might have some input.

Please see letter I'd sent to CC:

Hello Folks!

I bought your MMM/2200 package from Superfast RC less than a month ago. This is not my first Castle speedos or combo package. Matter of fact, I still have my first BL ESC, a Phoenix 45 prior to LiPo to send to you guys with some fees of course, for an upgrade. I was very tempted to get one of the EZ Run 150 just to try while in my down time…you see, I bought like 600 dollars worth of batteries a week prior so I can drive w/o having to care of recharge for the whole day. I’m sooo sad now.

Okay, back to the no workie part! Initial run was in an E-maxx stock spur with 16 tooth pinion powered by a Fiegao 8-Xl (2030 kv) and 5000 5S Flightmax 25C…no worries. ESC and motor wasn’t even breaking a sweat. I didn’t temp it because it wasn’t even warm.

Yarded the MMM/2200 and 8XL outa the emaxx and put in a Losi LST with the stardard two speed tranny. Again with the 5S Flightmax 25C. Don’t know teeth count right now though, but its stock numbers. I ran a few hours, got a few full speed runs…actually I don’t think I have, I was too scared! I temp the motor during pits..highest I’ve seen was 150 degrees F. MMM fan never kicked in so ESC never got a chance to see 150 degrees.

Yesterday, I finally had a chance to try my new Turnigy 5000 6S 25C LIPO in the LST. Way too fast! I’ve brought it in a few times during the test runs to do motor touch test. Wasn’t even warm. During a wheelies and pop ups…I’ve notice somewhat of a glitch…kinda like power shut off/on…I thought that was odd. It occurred a few more times and finally during a short run in my drive-way …I lost all power and the LST just coasted to a stop. I didn’t see any magic smoke nor smell anything burning. The motor was still cold.

I’ve disconnected/connect power and restart many times…still no good. Switch vehicles with different radios and receivers…still no go.

I’m sooo sad because I have sooo many batteries to drain in my LST but MMM no workie!

Please advise…MMM with snipped batt connector is in box ready to ship to you for inspection.

Thanks,

What version mmm was it? Was the esc hot when it burned? Could anything have shorted? Were your bullet connectors plugged in all the way?

Did the MMM fan ever turn on? Can't remember the exact firmware number, but the fan should start up briefly when you turn on the ESC. If it doesn't, then the fan is either disconnected or bad, and means the ECS may have overheated.

I believe this is the V3...the batt wires are soldered in placed? V3? I couldn't tell if it burnt. Like mentioned...no see magic smoke and no burnt smell. The LSt wasn't more than 10 feet from me when this occurred. I felt both motor and esc...both not much more than ambient...roughly about 75 last night around 8pm in beaverton, oregon.

The fan did kick on during boot up, but would only come on at 150 or above after post.

Just very strange!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Oh, although i'm new here...been RC'ing for awhile, and have many CC plane ESCs, and a Mamba Max.

Hmmmm...I got a response from CC. A Customer Support Rep thinks I burnt it due to my battery not being able to support the draw. Warranty doesn't cover this condition. Although he added I might get a replacement. I've been warned to not used these batts again or it might cause esc to fail. OH man....

IF so, then I wasted roughly $600 bux with the FLightmax 5000 5S 25C's and Turnigy 5000 5S and 6S 25C's.

Can someone chime in if those batts can support my LST with stock two speed and Fiegao 8XL?

One thing i like to mention...in 5S everything was fine. Even shift to second speed. I realized an 8XL might be a little hot in second...so I locked it out but screwing in shift adjustment and. Basically, I have small pinion with big spur...stock gear.

Thanks,

I don't see the batteries not producing enough current.... I bet those zippies would sure produce enough current, but it dies with the turnigys, Right?

You know what? I have a failed MMM V3 on a 5s 5200 C-Tech RC. Brand new. I got the same "It's the batteries fault not being able to provide the current and it caused the MMM to fail, don't use this battery again with the controller"...blah blah blah. Sent it off for replacement. While it was at CC, I bought another MMM, used the same battery and get this....works flawlessly.
I know that CC must be having a hard time keeping up with the warrantly claims, but think of all those people buying brushless Revo's and putting (you choice of poor Lipo brand here) in them.

As soon as the battery is connect and the switch is turned on, the fan will spin for about 2 seconds. If that's happening you might still have a good controller.

Hmmmm, So braking too hard/long is too much for a little device to handle; When that can't take the extra heat the current made by braking is sent into the batteries,,,; when the batteries can't take it the esc frys?
