good motor for Muggy? - 07.10.2009, 11:49 PM

I am looking for a good motor to install in my Muggy. Would the NEU 1512 1.5Y be a good one?
Thanks.

That motor would be a bit small for a Muggy IMO. I run a 1515 2.5D in my Muggy. A 1515 size is the smallest I would use, and a 1521 would be better yet.

It is awesome. Honestly it is the smallest motor I would suggest for the muggy, unless you live in siberia... It can handle the load of the muggy well, and does not do too bad temp wise either. My system is much happier with the 1521 1y than it was with a hacker c50 11l, and that motor is more powerful than the b50 series. 6s and a decent motor are mandatory for the muggy.

6s is the lowest voltage to get a good performance on the Muggy? So I got a MMM already, just get a 1521 or equivalent and it'll be straight?
what about the MMM 2200 motor will that be okay? Or Lehner 2250/6 motor?

That is what I did. I run a 1521 1y, MMM and 6s 4500 30c fp lipo. Gearing is 15/49 with stock muggy diffs and 6" tall tires. I can get 25min out of it on a 90f day without going over 155f on the motor, batt comes off at about 120f, but it likes to run hot and never goes out of balance. Plus it takes 4500mah back so this setup is not pulling it past what it can handle. I have 75k in the cd... I like wheelies!

You may be able to get away with a 80mm medusa around 1600kv (the 1521 1y is 1577kv) but considering they cost 150+ new, I would just look around doe a 1521 1y. I bought mine brand new for 180 shipped... I also got a used one for 170 shipped.

I have a medusa 36-80-1600 for my muggy, I have not finished the conversion yet though. I think/ hope that this works well, I will be Running 6S Lipo. I have a LT-6 that I'll probably run first, but if that gives me any problems I'll just buy another MMM.

I'm currently running an 80mm 2000KV Medusa with a 16T pinion on 4s lipo and it performs well but the motor runs hot. If you're looking for a cheap motor I'd look for 1100-1300 KV 80mm Medusa and run it on 6s lipo (14-15T pinion should do fine). I'm waiting for the new CC Neu motors to come out and I'll be replacing my Medusa with one of them. Neu 1515 2.5D or 1.5Y on 6s will do well, I ran it on a 1515 1.5D with a 13T pinion at first and it ran really well but the motor was a bit hot. A 1521 produces mad power on 6s lipo, a 1521 1Y on 6s lipo is going to take some throttle control to keep it on the ground:

The 2200 KV motor you can get in the MMM combos is basically a Neu 1515 1Y.
