Speed Passion Silver Arrow ESC opinions - 08.13.2009, 09:48 PM

Any opinions on this setup or Speed Passion gear in general? Seems reasonably priced for a 1/8th sensored combo. The only thing that seems a bit off is that it's only rated to handle 4s lipos which seems low for a 120A constant rated ESC. I only run 4s now but wouldn't really like the fact of being limited in case I ever wanted to upgrade.

My buddy had a brand new Speed Passion setup just like that one that was dead from the get go. Wouldnt do anything. He called them and they sent him a brand new setup. Put it on its actually would program and we ran it for maybe 5 minutes at the most and it let the magic smoke out. He called Speed Passion again and there words were "We are suprised it lasted that long. 5 minutes is the longest run time we have had yet. Normally they go dead when you switch them on on the bench to program" They said there was a bad batch or something and are currently working on a V2 model.

LOL So they sent him a bad batch unit and were surprised that it lasted 5 mins... well they better get their act together otherwise they won't be around for very long. Looks cheap anyways.

Well hopefully they'll get a V2 out there and make things right for the people who have already bought these. You would think they would do a recall or something. I'm not too impressed with a company that will release a product they expect to last 5 minutes or less. I don't see how it's possible for a problem of this magnitude to slip through the cracks.

Can anyone else confirm that these are faulty?

they ARE indeed a re-badged EZrun 80a esc without the fan and with a new heatsink. the thing that gets me though, is that the EZruns are proving to be pretty reliable from what i've seen. i was one of the "lucky" ones that had a 150a let out the magic smoke in 5 minutes. the 150a EZruns have a very low failure rate as long as you don't mess with the settings too much. i think the fatal flaw with mine was, when i first tested it out with 3s, i had to turn the LVC off because the auto lipo doesn't support 3s. after a 1 minute run with my 3s batts in parrellel, i switched to series (6s) and as soon as i gave it throttle, i got sparks from the solder joints in my series adapter. i gave another small pull of the trigger, and my esc started spewing smoke and ALL of the deans plugs currently on that truck had become unsoldered. also, the 14awg wire in my series adapter now sounds "crunchy" when i bend it. thank god for my poor soldering skills. lol

They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

the only big difference to the usual 80a ezrun is a better programming-box, which enables you to connect the esc to the internet to get firmware updates.

they are important, I know one who had bad cogging w. his new losi xcelorin, after the update it was gone.

of course you can get that box on ebay. the good point about speed passion is that you have no problem with warranty. that could be difficult when buying the ezrun somewhere in hk.
