g2r drive shafts

has anybodyt else had probs with the drive shafts on g2r,

I have assembled g2r roller, and the only part i had left was drive shafts, i installed and noticed that the rear short shaft is too long, i called gorillamaxx, and they said i got a bad rev, they sent me new shafts, however they are the same length, have i done something wrong in assembly ? please help me, as i'm ready to sell this pos if the shaft thing can't be fixed

p.s i have the single speed conv. mounted in the front postition, and the neu motor points the the rear(passenger side).

Why would you sell an entire truck just because the drive shaft was a bit too long- calm down before I slap you about for being hysterical....

What diffs and cups are you using?
Just how much too long is the rear shaft- if its only a mm or 2, then you can safely grind the tips of the shaft until it fits snuggly into the cups and doesnt bind against the ends of the out put shafts.

You could always try Mike's shafts that he sells for the Gorillamaxx (sure he has some for the revo version, but he can also custom make shafts to any desired length, as can rcalloys.com ).

Another option is to install a stock plastic 3905 type prop shaft between the rear diff and the tranny- just use an outdrive with a spare yolk in place of the stubaxle, piece of cake.

easy there, don't get slap happy yet. hysteria hasn't quite set in yet. i am using stock revo diffs, i am using the dog bones and cups that came with the g2r kit (i have 2 sets now!)
the dog bones don't seem to fit that smoothly. any how i haven't measured how much short i'm guessing 5-10mm. as it sits the front shaft has play in it, and the back(short) shaft does not fit. It is entirely possible that i have done something wrong, i just don't see what. I appreciate your input, as i am at a time/money point that i either need to see it go or let it go. I've got over 2 gs in it (now i find out, now more gorilla parts support) and a good bit of my time. i don't want to custom fab somthin cuz i've paid for these shafts and even had them replaced (although they are identical in size). sorry for the long windedness, but i'm less than optomistic at this point.

You could take some pictures and show them, so that the guys who already have build a g2r-chassis can take a look and maybe spot the problem...

i wish i could, i don't have a digi yet. (i know i'm a caveman).
if i could get in contact with gorilla, i would ask them for the exact measurments of the drive train. could someone maybe measure their g2r dogbones and send the measurments to me? so i'll know whats not to size, my g2r chassis or the dog bones, prolly the latter, but who knows

Hang on, are they too short or too long, you're not all that clear?

I've got about £1800 in my Gorilla, and too had fitment issues with various parts- a dremel cures most ills, but replacing a $10 shaft shouldnt be your biggest concern or cause you to pull your hair out, thats a minor issue really in the grand scheme of things.

Its worth remembering that no matter how much you put into a build, you'll be lucky to get 50% of what you spent back, more like 30% as I've observed from various ebay auctions over the years...

I'd say the rear shaft (the shorter one of them both) is too long to be put into place.

Hmph, sounds familiar problem. My rear axle didn't fit because there was a piece of tubing inside the outdrive cup. So had to take that out and then it sitted there nicely. Same problem in your case blt4speed?

nope, i wish it was that easy of a problem. it just seems that the rear shaft is the improper length, can somebody mic theirs for me ?, so i can compare your measurments to mine, thanks for the continued help, still haven't solved it yet. but i'm determined to make this damn thing work.

I still can't get the steel shafts and cups to work, so i have 2 extra sets.
moving on without the steel shafts.

ok, so i am making modifications to stock plastic (heavyduty) drive shafts. I have to cut them down, and remove the bevel on cup.
still wish i could use the shafts that came with the gorilla. but i need to at least power up this thing. I took pics the oder day, but they suck. I 'll get some betta ones soon. Still would like someone to send me measurments of their g2r shafts (front/rear). and any advice about the shaft options for my g2r. Thanks all

in the meantime i'll go drive my rc18t into the ground

I don't know how related the G3 and G2R chassis are, so I don't know if this information is of any use for you:
The one shaft is 108mm in total length, 101mm from center of one pin to the other.
The other shaft is 79mm total and 72mm from pin to pin.

yeah these pics sucked so bad, all you could make out was wheels and a wing. (they were a disposable camera, put on a cd)
any who, i think the only differences in the g2r/g3r is the thikness of carbon plates (like .5 mm more for the g3r). and maybe the design of the rear plate. however the dimensions are the same and the drive train layout is identical. (i remember asking gorillmaxx about using g3r plates on a g2r, and the answer was yes). when i get home (no pc there) i'll measure the steel shafts. thank you so much for taking the time to remove yours and measure, as thats probably the best way to answer my overall question (are my drive shafts incorrect ? a bad rev? or my stupidity?)
i'll let ya know either way. I'm goint to solder up the wires today

No need to thank me for removing the shafts.
I'm still waiting for most parts of my truck (hopefully tomorrow!) so the shafts were lying arround anyways.
But there is no - in JoFreak

just measured the shafts. The long one has the same measurments exactly, however,as i suspected the short(rear) shaft is about 5mm longer than yours. So i'm in the market for a hardened steel shaft that is 79mm total length and 72mm pin-to-pin just like yours, ne body got ne ideas, for now i'm doin like yall said (just used stock HD shafts and cut to fit. Will install BEC and charge battery tonight or tomorrow. The beast is literally that close to coming alive
