Plastic Spur for xray xb8 / 808? - 05.21.2009, 03:27 AM

Hi guys,

I am just converting an xray xb8 ec to brushless. Bought it used off ebay. Had my first functional test on the workbench today and revving it up sounded horrible! Having a closer look at the spur it showed excessive wear on the teeth. Now I need a new spur and would like to switch to plastic right away. Would the Kyosho spur fit? Anything else? Has any of you done that move before? If so, please share your thougts and experiences!
Thank you.

PS: This is my first post on this great forum. In the past weeks I learned so much from you by reading your posts. This will be the first brushless buggy at our local track so I want to get everything as sorted out as possible right from the start. The xray looks very promising, especially with Mike`s mount in it.

c u

I think I have read on this forum somewhere that the Kyosho spur fits. Do a search.
Oh yeah, welcome to RCM buddy

No the kyosh spur doesnt fit the xray diffs. The screw hole locations are off and the OD of the diff cup iw way to small. It provides no allignment on the spur. I supposed you could get it to work somehow with some modification, but I wouldnt do it. Just run the steel spur. Its more durable that way anyway. Get it out on the track with the nitros and I guarnatee you wont even hear you gears. LOL

Thanks Jhautz, you just saved me from wasting 10 Bucks. Makes me want xray starting to get into the brushless business like losi and ae with the platic spurs.

You may need to replace the whole diff if you want the plastic spur. Correct me if I am wrong Jhautz, but the slipperential fits the 808, which also fits the losi. You could theoretically put the losi diff in the 808 and run the plastic spur.

Yea. Seems like that would work. You would need to change the bearings on the losi diff. It uses something out of the ordinary and the XB8 just uses normal 8x16x5 bearings. But it seems like that should work.

eureka!!!! i found a way for the xb808 to have a plastic spur gear. use a losi eight center diff and use a kyosho spur 46t gear and it will work, just add shims to the bottom of the mount to raise it up ,so it doesn't poke through the chassis. Yes....i final got it to work. me and a friend that had a losi eight 2.0, talked about how simliar the parts are and wanted to test to see if some are compatible, and some are.
