MMM Question

I know this maybe a silly question but i have a MMM and i want to run it on a 1/8 electric buggy but use a 1/10 4000kv and above motor on 7.4v lipo.
I know these esc's are ment for higher voltage lower kv motors but are they safe on low voltage high kv setups on 1/10 and 1/8 buggies. Just need to know to be sure.

Also a friend had his MMM case come open leaving the base still attached to the buggy during a race meating on friday and rippeded off the reciever wires
is this covered under warrenty if i send it back to castle.

Well, using a 1/10 motor in a 1/8 vehicle is a recipe for disaster- 1/8 vehicle needs 1/8 motor.

The esc itself will be fine with running a smaller motor and lower voltage, but the motor will most likely burn up if you put it in a 1/8 vehicle and try to gear it for any kind of speed (over 20mph say).

Dont do it in other words- you can happily use a 1/8 scale motor in the high 2000kv range on 3s lipo, but a 4000kv item on 2s lipo is not going to work too well, especially since its under sized for the application.

As for your friend, yep, MMM is covered under 12 month warrenty for things like that. What I would suggest is once its fixed & returned, put a zip-tie around it to prevent the case popping open. There is a form on the castle website that needs printing out & filling in and sending in with the esc.

I have been using a 1/10 4300kv ezyrun motor on a 7.4v lipo in my hsp 1/8 brushless buggy with the standard 70amp esc for the last 3 race meetings and the setup has been working fine and motor temps sitting around 65-70c but the esc is not adjustable so i thought i would try the MMM i have.
The buggy is not quite as fast as the nirto's but i have been getting podium wins in my class in sports buggy against them. So i think if its done corectly and you are carful and are not going for total speed as im not its just good fun to beet the nitro guys at there game even with a slower electric.

How long is that motor you use? 50mm might just be alright in a lightweight buggy- which is my next question (weight of buggy rtr?)...

the ezrun motors are only 380 sized. my 3300kv ezrun won't even more cool on a rustler vxl geared for 35mph with 3s. but, then again, every motor has been running hot due to my stupid near-toast vxl esc.

Yeah its the 4300kv finned can also so its the 380 size but yeah 50mm long.
I would like to try a proper 540 size one to see if would be any better and run cooler but will see when i can get my hands on one to try it out.
The HSP buggy without wheels, esc and motor is 1.750kg compared to the Caster pro nitro buggy i have converted is 2.010kg so there is 250grms between them.

Whats that then, about 4-5lbs, pretty light. If its just a tad slower than the evil nitros running a 50mm 380 motor, then a 50mm 540 motor would be about the same speed or perhaps even a bit quicker on the straights than the nitros. I think a 380 XL motor might be a good choice too maybe.
