I have an original HV4400 Maxx Motor that I've been thinking about upgrading.

I noticed the endbell/rotor upgrade comes with the smaller diameter rotor.

Then I notice the larger stronger 14mm rotor sintered tuning rotor is sold separately.

Does Novak sell the endbell upgrade with the 14mm tuning rotor?

Another question. What is the kv of a HV4400 motor running a sintered tuning rotor?

I was going to order this (price is right) but I haven't used my HV4.5 since the ESC locked up and thinks the rotor is stuck. Have a hard time forking over 80.00 to replace the esc. It on special (or closeout) they only have one left.

Ummm......your problem could be inside the motor, if one of the hall sensors has failed. These are at the end of the rotor inside the motor.

They tell the esc rotor position. It will behave this way if they are messed up.

I've read in several places that it will work on the HV4400.

It would be nice if there was an easy fix for the locked rotor. I've gone through my share of HV ESC returns for warrenty issues. This one is out of warrenty and it just up and quit working one day. I would be more open to spending some money on it if it was one of my screw ups or atleast had some fun do it. Can't hurt to take the rotor out and give the inside a cleaning. Might help. Thanks for the tip.

When you open the motor, look all the way down inside the hole the rotor comes out of.

You will see a circuit board with several components on it. There should be three little black squares, 120 degrees apart.

I have a motor here that lost one, and it behaved like you described.

I've been thinking about sending it in for a Non-Warranty Replacement. There's no fixing it.

When you put the rotor back in, be VERY careful not to hit those hall sensors with the end of the rotor shaft. They can be damaged if not careful.

I thought you could unscrew the end of motor opposite of the pinion gear.
It had a cover over the circuit board.
Then again this was on some of the first novak motors.

Hi Coolhand,

I'm sure there is a way to get into the circuit board, but they have changed the design looks like.

Under the rear cover, you can access the bearing. But then you would have to bend the solder tabs out of the way and continue from there.

Fact of it is, this 6.5 motor I have needs parts. I bought it as a non-working motor thinking I could fix it. but.........

Looks like someone got a pinion stuck on the shaft, then took a hammer to it because part of the housing that holds the rear bearing is broke.

I got the endbell replacement and the new rotor today.

Installation went very smoothly.

I noticed there is a HUGE difference in magnetic strength of the new rotor versus the old rotor. The new one is MUCH stronger!

This should serve to lower the kv rating of the motor, shouldn't it?

Hmmmm..........Looks good though.

I'm going to try this newly configured motor with the MM Pro.

The way to get the rear enbell off to get to the circuit board is to unsolder the windings from the PC board that mounts the external solder tabs. I did this on a motor as an experiment to de-wind it. Then put it back together again and ran it. But I didn't need to fiddle with the electronics on the sensor board.

Of course, you could always just run the thing in sensorless mode.

It's been awhile for me too.

I took the new setup out for a run this morning. It's VERY smooth.

Low speed operation is like Rock Crawler Quality. Pretty amazing really.

This is zippy fast when you stab it.

Plans are to play around with the different modes on the MM Pro.

I wanna try the mode that uses the sensors only to start the motor, then switches to non-sensored brushless mode. I think this will be the "sweet" setting.

"Cheat" mode will be interesting also.

So far, I've only tryed "sensored only" mode, but am very pleased.

The MM Pro's ability to operate sensored motors is "Spot ON"!

We have the repair/replacement components for our HV motors in our on-line store. The 14mm HV Pro tuning rotor is fabricated from a rare earth material with a much better heat handling ability.

The HV 14mm tuning rotor/5 mm shaft will not fit the old 4400 motor.

Using the Tuning rotor reduces the published Kv by about 20%,
