HPI Blitz Motor Opinions - 10.25.2009, 03:52 PM

I'm thinking about picking up a HPI Blitz and I'm not sure which motor I want to go with for it. When I had my Slashes, I ran a castle 4600, then went to a Medusa 36-60-2000 on 4S. I don't want to do 4S on this truck, but want something that's going to run a little cooler than a 4600 geared for 33-35mph on 2S. I've thought about a Traxxas VXL motor...any other suggestions?

Not a bad suggestion. I'd like to find something under $150 though.

Have you tried the other Castle Motors?

The 5700kv and the 7700kv?

Hmmm..........Do you have another use for that Medusa Motor?

Haven't tried anything yet as I don't have the truck. Just going off of how the 4600 ran in my Slash. It wasn't super hot, but it ran in the 150-170 range most of the time. While that's well within the temp range, cooler is always better.

Also, the Medusa was sold a long time ago.

What are you going to do with the Blitz? Bash or race?

For mine I'm looking at something along the lines of Medusa 36-50-2200 on 4s ~3000-3600mah. It should be a strong setup, and could probably be geared down to limit power.

Another option I'm looking at is a regular 17.5 on 4s with MM Pro, where it could run 2s if I ever wanted to race in spec class.

And lastly would be the Velineon on 3s ~4000mah with a MM or whatever. Still undecided. That stock motor on 2s just isn't cutting it

SH Z-Car, Custom Crawler, 8s Savage, 12s XTM XLB 1/7 buggy, 4wd 4-link rear/IFS Pro4 truck, Custom Hyper 10 Short Course, Belt-Drive Mammoth ST 1/8 truggy, 4s 17.5 MM Pro HPI Blitz

Those aren't bad options. I'll keep those in mind.

Can you run a Roar legal motor on 4s Lipo though? I have a Trinity 17.5 motor here, but I thought it was never able to run any more than 2s lipo.

I like that option. I race all my cars so 17.5 for the track on 2s and 3 and 4s for the house.

The truck is on the way now along with a MM Pro. Just picked up a Traxxas VXL Motor and will be picking up a Hyperion 3S CX 5000mAh pack for it.

I'm in a similar predicament, but only with a firestorm instead.

I've run both the 5700kv and 4600kv from castle and both motors run extremely hot.
I have a 1509 in st-e and can't praise neu motors enough unfortunately the blitz is based on the firestorm so any 15xx series neu won't fit as the can diameter is too big. The 14xx series will fit but it only comes in 5mm shaft size-which limits your pinion choices.
The 11xx series doesn't fit due to the motor bolt spacing being too small.

Since medusa are no longer in the equation i think a very good option is the velineon.

Let us know how it goes.

I have a Lightning Stadium 10 (Much like a CRT.5) it's a 6-1/2 lb truck that I run 3s in with this motor (http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=6529) and it runs very cool geared 55/13 at 38mph. Slightly above ambiant temps at the most even here in 95+degree heat and high humidity. The motor has ben going strong for 7 months with regular use.
Somthing to consider, definitly cheap enough ?

I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

I would go with a 1506 or a 1509... The little hyper ste does well on 2s with a 1509 motor. So 3s and a lower kv 1509 would be a good setup.

The biggest problem would be finding 5mm bore 48P gears for it. I'm not sure the Blitz can be converted to a 32P spur.
