Hey guys, I have a brushless Revo 3.3 running a 80A HW esc and KD 9XL Motor on 4s2p A123 and want to upgrade the motor. I will be switching to a 1/8 buggy shortly. At present the Revo has the std 2 speed and motor temps don't seem to top 130f which isn't bad for these spinning toasters.
Will a Neu 1509/1.5Y suffice? Funds sort of prohibit me from upgrading the ESC as well and 4s is the limit in the class I want to race, wifey won't allow Lipos with a teething rugrat on the loose.
It will work, but a 2000 kv Tekin buggy motor would be better. Or a 1512 2.5D, medusa 60 series 2000kv if you can find one
1. MBX-6 T8 1900KV, RX8 ON 4S
2. MBX-5T 1520, MMM ON 5S
3. MBX-5 ONROAD CONVERSION 1515, MMM ON 5S
4. MRX-3 ON ROAD CONVERSION 1512, MMM ON 6S
5. TEN T 2650 T8, MMP ON 3S

I hate the lipo scare bullcrap. The ONLY time they can blow is when being used or charged, and an appropriate charger used appropriately won't allow a battery to blow. When not being used store them next to your weed, the carpet cleaner shouldn't be allowded near your stash.
Geared for track use (35-40 tops) a 1509 should be fine IMO. Definitely better than a feigao.

i have a 36/60 2000kv medusa motor with the motor mount holes tapped for m4 screws. it never got over 140F in my 10lb CEN matrix geared for a little over 40mph on 4s. pm me if interested
They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

I keep the green in a lipo sack just in case the lipos burn the house down.
Would the Castle 1512 1800kv be too slow on 4s? How about the castle 1512 2750kv?

good thinking
remember, the lower the kv, the more torque it has. Within reason you can just gear up to compensate for the lower kv. The 2750 on 4s would fly!! If I were to choose one for 4s use I'd go with the 1800kv

Amain and Tekno are selling the Lektron motors (rebadged Medusa 36/60 2200kV motors in a square can) for $100. The bigger the motor, the cooler it runs, but it doesn't really take that large of a motor to run a buggy. A Medusa 36/60 motor is MUCH smaller volume-wise (which is related to torque) than a Tekin or Castle 1512.
There's also the Aquacraft 2030kV 6-pole 36x56 motor that will work.
Yeah, I had a Medusa 36-50-3300 kv in an E-Savage on 3s Lipo and that was great, motor ran very cool and didnt feel stressed at all.
The 36-60-2000 I have run in a 1/8 Buggy converted previously with a lot of success, and eventually thats what I want to move towards (or Truggy) again
That said the 9XL has been ok so far, max temp has been 125f after 12 minutes and max amp peak (via Watts meter) was 64 Amps on 4s2p A123
Say Less, Do More.
