Question about 5S. -
01.29.2009, 07:51 PM
Hey guy's, I had someone say to me that it's possible to use a 2S & 3S pack to make up 5S.
Now, I didn't think it was possible due to the different amp ratings of each pack.
Am I right thinking this way or is it possible?

Well, if the amp-hour is the same on both packs, they have been used the same number of time, have seen the same type of usage, and are about the same age, then yes, just put them in series.

I bet if you are sure one pack has less mah AND a smaller amp rating than the other, you can put an external lvc just on just that pack and not have to worry about the stronger pack going below the minimum voltage.

Too much hassle.
Are you guy's aware of anyone that makes hardcase 5S packs?

Team Losi has a 25c 4000 mAh 5s hardcase pack. Too expensive imo seeing that my Neuenergy 25c 3900 mAh was less than half the price.

Chargery makes a 25 and a 30c 4000mah.

I used a "bottom" line.

Problem with this is the setup will have to draw way lower than the smaller pack can handle. If it is even close to the smaller pack's cont rating that pack will most likely puff from over discharge. Just buy the right thing. 5s is a good voltage to run stuff at, but if you have to run 2 packs go with 6s.

I had been running a 5s setup using a 2S 5000mah 25c/50c and 3S 5000mah 25c/50c. Both are Neuenergy batteries and same age. So far no problems at all.

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Ive got over 3 year old TrueRc 2s and 3s 8000mha packs Ive been running in series for a 5s setup in my revo. 3 years and still kicking. I charge them and balance them in series too though so they in all reality have been treated the same as a single 5s pack. As long as both packs are the same cells and always run together there should be any issues at all. Its very common practice to do this.
I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

I've run my converted revo on a 2S and 3S 4300mAh 20/30C zippy K packs in series for 5S with a series connector. The packs are a few months apart in age so the cells aren't matched. But they drain equally and I ballance charge them every use.
