Hi All,
My savage 4.6 X shreded the teeth on the clutch bell, (metal spur gear), I changed the bell and checked everything over, all seems ok.
However The 2 speed tranny doesnt change to second unless its lifted of the ground. Put it back on the ground, and it races of ok, just wont change up. Waiting to catch the piston comming out of the cylinder head.
I know i'm old fahioned here not wanting a bl electric but i live in England, and love the smell of nitrous for breakfast.............Its cheaper than napalm.........LoL
The new clutch bell was found at the back of my toolbox, but was an hpi stock item.
get an hpi vented clutch bell. they are hardened and won't wear out like your stock clutch bell did. the stock gears are 17/47. if you are using a bigger spur gear, you will also need a bigger clutch bell to get the same top speed.
also, you can look in the instruction booklet and it tells you how to adjust the shift point in the transmission. you can set the shift point lower, so it shifts easier.
They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.
Maybe your clutch is slipping because the bell you pulled out of your box was contaminated or glazed over. This would cause the motor to rev up and not shift under load. Take away the load by lifting the truck in the air and the clutch isn't working as hard, so won't slip as much and will be able to drive the trans fast enough to shift. Take the bell off and use some sandpaper to rough up where the clutch shoes contact it. You can also scuff up the clutch shoes a little and use some degreaser on everything to make sure there's no oil on anything. Double check the slipper clutch too, if it's slipping to much you'll have the same problem.
