4s or 5s or 6s?

i am currently running 4 cell lipos in my truggy.if i were to go up to 5 or 6 cell packs what could i expect? longer run times? more speed? cooler running?

Your question is a little broad. What kv motor, esc, gearing and battery? What do you want to do with it? race, bash, speed runs?

As a rule of thumb, if you gear to the same speed, higher voltage = lower temps, but that also depends on the motor.

With a good motor you should aim for 30k-40k revs on the voltage you want to run.

When deciding on a set up, your battery should be the first decision (volts and continuous amps) and then an esc and motor to suit. Then gear it right with BrianG's calculator.

If you stick 6s in your current set up I would imagine it will go like a bat-out-o-hell, get high temps and fry something.....but then I don't know your setup either. Can the esc and motor handle more volts?

i am running a truggy with a mmm v3 esc and 2200kv neu motor,46t spur and play with 14-18t pinions. i bash/race.we are starting to see 15 minute electric finals and my current 4s 5000mah 30c packs arent quite lasting that long.so am looking for a few more minutes run time.

well w/the 2200 motor on 5s will be a lot faster....but if you really wanted an efficient set up, a 1500kv on 5s would be much better and would should give you a couple of extra minutes of run time if geared correctly.

I believe you can now get 5500 and 6000mah 5 and 6s li-po. The more mah, the more weight you add though.

i take it goin from a 2200kv to 1500 would be drop in overall speed and power? would it be super noticable? i like the idea of longer run times and there is definatly more power in the 2200 than i really really need.it just gives me far more than i need so a tone down might be in order.just dont want to drop to much tho,its still alot of fun with all that acceration

Not less power. 1500kv is for 6s set ups and is less taxing on the battery, hence the marginally longer run time.
2200kv X 4s = 32560 revs
1500kv X 6s = 33300 revs
As you can see gearing will not really change.

4s 5000 30c = 2220w
(example) 6s 5000 30c = 3330w
Depending on what 6s battery you go with, there will be more likely more power (1/3 more). I wouldn't expect to see 1/3 more performance at the track though.

Youre lucky if you are only after a few more minutes as I need 20 minutes for our mains so need low KV motor and 5 or 6 cell batteries.
Doing my research if you wind the timing down on youre ecu to about 7 degrees and gear down and drop youre epa on radio down plus be careful with youre finger and maybe drop the lvc on ecu to say 2.9 volts per cell you can add a few minutes onto run time.

i was just reading your thread about 20 minute run times. thats a long final,i bet things get pretty warm by the end of that.i find my 2200kv has plenty if not to much power for what ineed.i find i waste a lot of power wheel spinning in the loose stuff so a slighty lower powered motor might be on the cards

yeah I run with nitros so thats what we run at Harewood and dont want to rock the boat and complain as lucky to be running with them at allmotor was hot but I was geared 1x pinion to high and had timing at 15 degrees which I think is default setting which sounds like it might be a bit to high
if you were only wanting a few more minutes I would say drop down to a 1700kv or similar and run lower timing/lower punch and keep off the loose stuff..easier said than done and you may be ok with youre present batteries.
