User operated fan (or other) - 04.11.2010, 04:27 AM

I'm not convinced my fan on the mmm is coming on when it needs to. The previous unit the fan would come on regularly, my ir gun would read 40-45C through the side. Now i get readings 50C+ but no fan. I know it works cause it spins when the mmm is turned on.

Anyway I did some searching and found the NERS and MERS switchs. I don't have telemetry but I reckon this would be a good accompanyment if you have enough channels in the reciever.

I don't know if these are old hat but thought you might like to know if you didn't and if you did know then could you share your experience. I haven't ordered one yet.

Seems kinda more money, hassle & wiring than is needed. Just swap out the stock fan for an aftermarket 25mm item, and put an rx plug on the leads = permanently on fan that will lower MMM operating temps throughout the whole run, rather than kick in once its already starting to overheat...

Fair comment Neil. I knew of that method but the idea of being in control (and the extra gadgetry) seemed apealling to me. The mers is quite a bit extra wiring and hassle.

btw are they still making red dwarf? I haven't seen it in years.

If all you want is something that can be turned off/on via CH3 of your radio, save a few bucks and recycle one of your old unused servos.

It is a problem in that it doesn't operate as it should and therefore something is wrong, and may wear faster since it is seeing more usage. But, it's not a problem in that the ESC stays cooler since it is on all the time. Depends on how you look at it.

I like that servo/fan idea, time to fire up the soldering iron..

Redwarf = last series was several years ago, but they made a mini-series that went out on a non-terrestrial chanel & then went pretty much straight to DVD; by all accounts it was rather crap. I might pick up the dvd regardless though; die-hard fan & all that...
