Hey guys,

Simple question:

"What is the BEST/STRONGEST tyre glue?"

I'm running my buggy on 6s lipo, and the tyres just explode off the rims. I've tried a variety of glues, ranging from general-purpose superglue to specific tyre glue, all with little success. They hold up at first, but after a few runs, start to peel away and come apart.

Someone once recommended me Zap-A-Gap, saying it was the best glue they had ever used. Lasted all of 10 minutes!

So yeah, any helpful advice greatly appreciated, as always

I've used this when tires just won't stay on with regular CA glue.

I bought some of this to try, but haven't had to glue any new tires since I got it.

In a slightly unrelated note: has anyone tried the HobbyCity threadlock compounds? Looks like they have a pretty good variety.

Don't remember the brand but the kind I always use is CA with a rubberizing ingredient in it that makes it flex so as not to break the hold. I have also had great luck on other things with lock tite brand control gel ultra hold super glue. I think the gel does a better job of getting around everything better and not running off like standard CA.

That's what the one I bought from HC is supposed to be, but as I said haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Seems like everyone uses something different. I just use regular Tower Hobbies thin CA glue and I haven't had a tire come off yet (knock on wood).

How fast do you drive though? I've got a converted Hyper 8 with the MMM 2200 combo in it, running 6s and geared for 70. The tyres are under immense strain and every glue i've tried just isn't up to the challenge. Cost me quite a bit in tyre replacements!

Well I've had my GTP over 70... (6s, Neu 1515/1y). That was with the stock tires that I glued. I'm pretty sure the tires went faster than 70 when I spun them.

I would also bet a lot of it isn't WHAT glue you use, but HOW you glue the tires. Making sure everything is clean, scuffing up the wheel, applying the right amount of glue in an even fashion, all of these things and more will affect how well the tires holds.

The big trick to making sure the bead holds is the prep of the tire and wheels itself. If you're not scuffing the tire bead and wheel, you should be. I use green scotch brite to scuff both the tire bead and the where it seats on the wheel. Then I wipe down both the tire bead and wheel with rubbing alcohol to clean off all the little rubber and plastic particles from scuffing it up. I then use thin CA to glue them together. I haven't had a problem yet and this includes 53+ mph with badlands (on a Savage Flux) which balloon a heck of a lot more than any buggy tires.

I don't scuff the wheel, but I always clean both surfaces with alcohol before gluing. Get the tire on the wheel, seated properly in the bead, and fold it back a bit to apply the CA to the bead. The thin CA will wick itself in and around the rubber. I do small sections at a time, like: Top, bottom, left, right, turn 45*, repeat. That way the tire doesn't get off center too much while gluing.

Though I have to say, the second SOMEBODY makes 1/8 buggy beadlock wheels I'll be buying 3 sets.

I asked about Maximizer beadlocks for truggy and everyone said they were a huge PITA. Can't see how it would be any better for a buggy.

I have a set of the Maxximizer beadlocks. They aren't that bad, considering they are beadlocks and you only need to assemble them once....usually. The new insert rings are tricky on the first wheel but the next three go much faster.

I have had no problems with aka. Wheel/Tire prep. is a must .I always scuff the surfaces to be glued light and clean well before i glue.The wick that comes with aka makes for a very clean job also.

I use regular CA.. thin or medium.
Got some Great Planes CA that I'm using now, i use it for everything.
Last time I glued tires was a long time ago, and I believe I used Duratrax Medium Glue...
