Battery saving setup - 05.16.2010, 04:33 PM

Can you guys comment on what would be the best setup on mamba monster and 2200kv motor to save some mAh's and give me the best runtime? I'm using 6s 4000mah on a vorza flux...
Probably 0 timing?

That's only an 80A battery, which is just not enough for the MMM/2200kV, nowhere near enough actually, and you risk burning up the ESC if you keep running it.

I know the Vorza is not as big and heavy as an MT or Truggy, and the tires are quite a bit smaller, but 80A just isn't enough for the Monster. I suggest you buy a new battery, one with more capacity and higher discharge rate. Since you are looking for more run-time, a 5000-5800mAh 30C battery will be perfect for you. The very minimum I would suggest is a 25C 5000mAh battery, but I highly recommend a 30C or higher battery. Plus, a higher discharge rate battery will improve run-time since it supplies more amperage to the ESC/Motor, allowing them not to have to work so hard, which increases run-time.

Either a Zippy Flightmax or Turnigy LiPo will be perfect for you, and they are very inexpensive. I personally run nothing but Zippies and Turnigies in all of my vehicles, including my BL Revo 3.3 with an MMM/2200kV combo.

Let me know if you decide to buy a new battery (which I HIGHLY recommend), and I will help you pick out the right one.

i just bought them, so i'm gonna have to deal with it.

I thought that it being 6S 3600mah would be equivalent to a 4S 5000mah or so..

was doing some math and these batts are capable of 1776W continuous and 2664W burst, it's not enough for a MMM?

Your batteries should be just fine, I race with allot of guys that run 6s 3500mAh batteries with no problems. The only problem will be too much speed with a 2200kv motor, most people racing 6s run 1400 to 1600kv motors.

Reduce the start power, up the drag brake (which returns some energy back to the batteries), adjust the throttle curves. Try advancing the timing up to 4 degrees and see what that does to your run time. It will take some experimentation to get it right for your truck.

Increasing runtime means you have to use less power, plain and simple.

Biggest thing you can do (aside from using higher mAh cells) is to use a gentle throttle finger. That's where the majority of runtime losses will occur due to the huge current spikes. Also, increasing punch control can help, but may take away some "responsiveness", which may be noticeable during racing or changing attitude in the air during jumps.

When I'm using my XT8 truggy (5s 5Ah lipo, MMM, geared for ~35mph) towing my 23lb 18 month old around the neighborhood in her wagon, I get well over an hour of runtime going slow and not stabbing the throttle. Of course, that's probably a little slower than you want to go, but just showing that gentle running can seriously extend runtime.

Like I said, your battery is only an 80A battery, and just isn't enough to feed the Monster, and you risk burning up your Monster. I would wrather pay $65 for a new battery than have to pay $70-$150 for a new Monster and then wait forever and a day to get it.

Just go to www.hobbycity.com and buy either a 30C 6S 5000mAh LiPo or a pair of 30C 3S 5000mAh LiPos (wired in series) and be done with it. Use EMS shipping and you will get it/them in 3-5 days.

Just my $0.02, because that battery just isn't enough, and will eventually destroy your MMM (unless you gear for 15mph and drive like a granny).

Ummm...I just make recommendations, they can make the choice of what battery they want to buy and where they buy it.

Like I replied in another thread, I personally run Zippies and Turnigies, and they have been nothing short of amazing, so those are the batteries that I recommend...I can not recommend batteries that I don't recommend.

Just out of curiosity, what speed are you geared for, and what kind of runtimes do you currently get? I just haven't seen notable differences in runtime except from gearing for a lower speed.

I think saying 80A isn't enough current rating is overlooking the fact that it is a 6S setup. Maybe 80A wouldn't be enough for a 4S setup, but the 6S setup will draw less current. 80A constant should be fine in a buggy on 6S as long as it is geared reasonably.
