Losi strikes out again - 04.19.2010, 10:09 AM

I have said it before and I'll say it again, I hate Losi and don't understand why there is so much love for there vehicles! I gave Losi another shot awhile ago and bought a 1/18 crawler, also my first venture into crawling. It's been sitting since Easter cause I stripped out the rear diff locker. Why they would use such a weak design on a crawler is beyond me, to top it off I can't even get the whole diff apart cause the its bitty phillips head screws that hold the diff together, two of the eight won't budge. I filled it with super glue and put it back together and it seems to be working. But after I waited for it to dry and started playing with it it became painfully clear that the steering servo was about dead! It won't even turn the wheels on carpet, just makes an awful squealing sound. Not willing to go buy another lousy Losi servo or try figuring out what will fit there I decided to make my own mounting plate and mount a 1/10 scale servo. It's not the best servo by any means, just a Spektrum z590, but it had worked in my CRT.5 with good results so I figured it'd be up to the task of this little crawler. Why can't Losi put at least an ok servo on this thing, something that will last more than 5 or 6 packs? I'm pretty sure this is my last venture with Losi!!!

I also have given up on Losi...had 3 bad experience with their products. Part of it is my fault though for buying crappy products...the last straw was a mini lst, enough said. i know their 1/8 stuff is good, but, other than that, it seems to be traxxas all over again

Haven't had any experience with Losi until I got the Ten-T, but that's been holding up perfectly fine despite my less-than-stellar driving. Even the stock steering servo is pretty good (is digital). The only issue I've had is a premount tire coming unglued. Maybe the issues only apply to their small-scale stuff?

My experience has been that the xxx-cr and the lst are the good products. I thought the eight platform was a bit cheapo, compared to a hyper buggy. The muggy is pretty good, but the cheaped out on the chassis and the steering servos there as well. The mini lst is a joke, at least the mini t is better. I got sick of working on the mini vehicles and just moved them all on. Smallest thing I have rc right now is a tamiya m03 fwd car, and it is 10 times more fun than any of the mini vehicles, and I have yet to break it either.

I hear good things about the losi crawler, 10th scale. Maybe give it a try, but I doubt that I dump any more money in crawlers, I have enough parts to build a few more.

Yeah, I found out when looking for parts that the diffs in the 1/18 crawler are the same as the mlst. What kills me is that I have bought complete diffs for my RC8T for less than what I can get one of these for!

Chris, looks like your only losi part might be the axles!

Is that a full size servo? Did you make the plate or is that an aftermarket piece that's available? How much weight do you run in the front. I haven't done anything to mine, it's a bone stock losi 1/18 crawler other than repair to the rear axle and the servo in my first post. It does pretty good but I know it needs some weight in the front tires and some bent lower links would make it a very capable little crawler.

I'm wary of any Losi vehicles that fall into their novelty Mini and Micro categories. Look at the Micro Rock Crawler, don't even know where to begin with that thing...

I wouldn't really consider the mini ( 1/18 ) a novelty, at least not a real 1/18 scale such as my RC18T that takes a beating and keeps asking for more. I will agree though on the micros, they are a novelty. What are you going to crawl over with a 1/24 scale crawler? Maybe a 3 subject notebook if your lucky!

I'd start with about 3-4oz in each front wheel.

I've some alum beadlocks if interested.

Have no $ to sink into this at the moment, just bought a SC10 2 weeks ago and in the last 2 days I bought MMpro, 13.5, Rulux sc wheels, caliber sc tires, and RPM front arms for it! Gotta cut myself off somewhere

You are right, 1/18th isn't necessarily a novelty, I'm just kind of biased by my own personal experience. Dropped a ton of cash on upgrades for my Mini Desert Truck and yet it didn't change the fact that it got hung up on slightly uneven dirt. I could see a 4wd mini being a better prospect, but I'm reluctant to try again after getting a taste of 1/8 scale. Smallest I will go now is 1/10 or 1/12.

Hi guys,I've finally got my ml$t2 running as a monster truck. Its cost a fortune.I've got a crawler(mini) and a micro raminator,.I'm actually pleased with the ml$t2 now.But as most say ,they've let us down for years,They won't try anything suggested by people who're running the trucks,The tiny screws mentioned ,you can drill the tops off and use pliers on the threads.Epoxy resin works well to relock the diff(I did it in the ml$t2,worked for 4 x 1000mah 40 c lipos, through a 5200kv brushless) I'm waiting for a mip diff ,its coming from the US ,but the backlog from the icelandic volcano is ridiculous.I'm boycotting Losi & horizon hobby, they just take,.
