Soldering jig.

I hope this is the right place for this.

I just finished making some charging leads for parallel charging and used the soldering jig from Vigilante. I used Dean Connectors and this jig made it soooooo easy. It took longer to get the iron out then it did to do the work. Well worth the $20.

Oh wow, I've never seen this but I need to get one. Deans is a PITA to solder sometimes. I just did 4 of them a couple of days ago and this would have turned an hour of frustrating soldering into probably 10 minutes.. What a great idea. Thanks for the review!

I just use a pair of vice grips to hold the connector. Then, just hold the wire and solder it on there. If you are soldering so long that the wire is too hot to hold, you are taking too long and need to practice soldering.

Hmm well maybe I am not soldering correctly, as I can't seem to get the solder to "melt" into the wire unless I get the wire too hot too hold.. Maybe I need different solder? Or maybe I'm just no good at it.

The bench vise is your freind when soldering deans. And for 20 bucks you can get a decent one from harbor freight. However, if you are always putting on deans this jig looks very handy. I might buy one, would like some better pics of it and how it holds everything.

who cares about deans when there are much better connectors and bench vise is much better than a single purpose jig :)

You are not the only one that reads these forums. You ever think someone else might be interested? As for Dean’s not being that great, that is just your opinion and who cares about it.

exactly it is my opinion and those $20 can be spent on standard vise that will do much better job and not just for soldering so you dont end up with a million of single purpose stuff

Well I still think it's cool, I'll probably get one. Will make jobs much faster for me than a bench vise will, too.

You will probably be better off with the vise. It will go well with your hammer. I’ll stick to "right tool for the job" theory.

I have some soft plastic jaws for my vise. Also, I have a small clamp on vise (what I was referring to) that has a plasticy type of coating on it and it works great for bullets that will transfer heat.

I like the look of the 2nd one myself, but the smaller suction one looks handy and have plastic jaws.

I use something just like this, nice to have as a supplement to my big mounted vise.

I found one of these at Habor Freight and Tool for under $5.00 and it works perfectly for my needs as a soldering buddy.
