Changed over to MMMs from my trusted MMs in my 3S Top Fuel Dragster and 3S Top Fuel Funny Car. I had no idea that there would be a noticeable difference. I am partly correct, except that there is a slight improvement which was noticeable for me.

Here's the numbers from my Dragster:

These were consecutive passes in an open track session after racing today and I was impressed that the changes I made in the ESCs were directly translated to improvements in the numbers. The MM was not that clear cut for me.

Here's from my Funny Car:

Couldn't do much here since I ran out of tires to test with.

Thanks to CC for putting out great RC electronics at a price point that's light on the wallet (every bit helps right?). I will be getting another 2 MMMs to replace MMs in my other rides as soon as the budget allows. I wonder if I can trade my MMs in for MMMs since I will have 4 lying around after the upgrades.

Good to see a 1.3 there Sunny. The MMM does flow more current than the MM, especially at burst. This is where you see the difference. Are you going to take out the heatsink as some other people do? Every little bit of weight loss makes a difference.

Thanks Romano. Yes, I like the way the MMMs flow more amps and yes those are the best off-the-line and mid track numbers I've seen in my rail too. I would like to take the fan, case and heat sink off them but kinda skittish about separating the heat sink from the FETs/board. But I'm OK with running at this weight. The cars seem to like being a little bit on the porky side: funny car is at 48oz and rail is at 45oz. Gonna keep it like this till the gains top out and then I will think about cutting weight.

The MMM heat sink is much like the Sidewinders, you could just clip off the the posts with qaulity nippers and finish w/a dremel sanding drum ?

Not a good idea to sand the aluminum down and potentially get conductive dust on the PCB....

Thanks for the words of wisdom Patrick. I'm planning on keeping things the way they are with the MMMs. Thanks for putting out such a great product. This was just the first day of running with MMMs for me. The MMs did fine while I learned the basics and the MMM is turning out to be a great upgrade already.

Since you are using these for drag racing and I would assume there is time between runs and the runs are short I would think that removing the fan and the top of the case wouldn't be to harmful, other than voiding the warranty. I doubt your gonna heat up the esc to 160*+ in 1.4 seconds, and even if you did your not maintaning it for any prolonged time so the fan would essentially be useless, and removing the top of the case would allow the heat to disipate more easily after the run while it's sitting in the pits.

I would guess that the times are quicker with the MMM for two main reasons:

1. The MMM has a little lower resistance than the MM, so currents to the motor will be higher (and thus, more torque).

2. The MMM has a more sophisticated back-EMF circuit and a faster processor, and can lock timing earlier than the MM. (and thus, higher torque earlier...)

So what if any advantages could be had using the MMpro over the MMM. Obviously understanding the MMM is capable of more power. Also I would be noting sensorless vs sensorless running the same theoretical motor since the MMM cannot run sensored.

The mmpro is good when using the cheat mode. Extra 100 watts of power with ease. Higher rollout startups are achievable with the MMpro as well. Smartsense is usefull here.
