Greetings, I am looking for suggestions on a good sensored brushless system for my mini-Summit. I run it on 2x3s lipos in parallel, and I have cut the fdr in half by switching the gears in the transmission. I put 500k diff fluid in the diffs for a limited-slip front and rear.

I want to be able to pseudo-crawl at really low speeds, which I can't do with the stock VXLm system. I don't care about top speeds. 20-30mph is fine for me on 3s.

Any ideas?

The Tekin systems would be perfect. Or, a MMPro and pretty much any sensored motor. Since you've geared so low, I think even a sensorless would work, but a sensored system would provide even more low speed control.

Thanks for the quick responses. I actually do have a Tekin RX8/1350kV in my big Summit. That's what gave me the idea for a similar set-up in my mini-Summit.

Will that Novak 380 be enough for a 1/16th scale truck, or will it be pretty stressed. I believe it was designed for 1/8th scale cars.

I'm also wondering if the drag brakes are always on full-time with the Novak Crawler 380. I want this truck to be a trail-rig, capable of bashing a bit, but also able to pseudo-crawl over rocks, etc.

Would it be advisable to go with the MMPro and the Novak 380 crawler motor perhaps?

Thoughts?

The system was made for 1/16 size. The motor also has a 1/8" output shaft so 1/10 pinions gears work on it. I have one in my Vendetta Short course truck and it does well, however you must gear it right.

Its ok in an MRC but not sure about 20mph speed or 3s...

Personally I would look at a out runner from Mr Holmes...

Not sensored, but I would go with a axi 22 series outrunner and a MM. My 6x6 1.9 scale rig uses the axi 2217 motor and it will spin all 4 tires on carpet if you nose the truck into the wall. Never cogs. Not many small sensored motors save for the novak and I think it will be underpowered. Kv is also very high, I guess you could gear it way down...

I asked JRH about this. He said the low speed control would be lacking with an outrunner. I asked him to look into a good brushed option if possible.

I think the Novak system might just work because I am geared really low and don't use high speed very often.

If you have room for an MMPro that would work well with a novak or other sensored motor. You could surely remove the fan if it was too tall as I can't see it heating up much on a 16th scale vehicle.

Novak ESC will also run Brushed if you like, (works well)

i have one of his HH out runners and i love it in my ax10, alot of people say that they dont like outrunners in crawlers but how may people have actualy spent time learning to drive with one?

Tenbol big block mount, MMpro and a 21.5T motor, maybe 17.5, you'd have to throw some numbers in the speed calculator and see what would work best. It'd never overheat and you'd be able to throw it in another RC when you get tired of the 1/16 scale. Just my opinion that the 1/16 isn't small enough for indoor use and to small for outside, I got tired of staying on the pavement with my revo vxl and sold it

I spoke with Novak tech support, and they think the Three-80 crawler would work great in the mini-Summit. The guys at the LHS think the motor is way too small and wouldn't be able to handle the larger truck. I might just buy it and try it just for fun.

If it doesn't work out, I'll probably look at the Tenbol mount, MMPro, and a 540 size low kV sensored motor.

I live across the street from a mountain, so my daughter and I go hiking a lot. The mini-Revo I had was too small, but the mini-Summit is a great trail rig for the terrain we're on, it just needs better low speed drivability. I take the big Summit as well, geared low with it's sensored Tekin RX8/1350kV system. This makes for very fun hikes!
