Cool FLM Emaxx hybrid bulkheads / Ofna hyper 7 diff install problems - 08.06.2011, 03:44 AM

OK, Heres the issue. I have a set of FLM hybrid bulkheads and a set of ofna hyper 7 diffs.

I took the ofna hyper 7 diffs apart and put the outdrive shafts in so the front axle driveshafts can hook up but after assembling I have another issue. The pinion shaft that comes out the rear of the front bulkhead has a flat spot on it instead of a hole through it so I can't use the steel center shafts that came with my FLM Emaxx which is part of this project as well. I'm speaking of the shaft that goes from the front axle to the transmission.

I'm wondering if anyone knows or is aware of where I can get a pinion that is 13 tooth and the teeth are spiraled so they'll fit the 43 tooth ring gear and the teeth will mesh properly ?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not expecting a quick response as this is something the more advanced rc guys are doing so it may take some time I'm figuring so hopefully I can find something soon so I can figure this out. It's like a blockade keeping this project from moving forward.

Here's some photos so those who are interested can see what I'm referring to.

I have the HB Lightning diff and pinion and the original pinion had spiral cut gears came with it. I had to buy a bevel straight cut ring and pinion as the spiral version would not fit in the hybrid bulks. I don't know about the Ofna, but I would guess that it would be the same. Hope this helps.
Mike.

Well I think I figured it out. The diff fits but I didn't realize that the pinion shaft was larger so I'm going to order a set of cvd cups for the front and rear pinion shaft. I had to order the 1/8 scale size and set screw to hold the axle on. I'm curious as to what wouldn't fit on yours ? Was it The diff housing that wouldn't fit in the housing or were the bearings the wrong side ? Post some pics if you have the time please. I had to put larger bearings in the car for the pinion shaft that outputs to the axle shafts that lead to The transmissions.

The FLM hybrid bulks. I did not take pictures during that part of the build, but I thinks it is documented numerous time in other threads. The ring gear in the spiral cut gears are just a little larger( at least with the HB Lightning gears). I needed to buy the straight cut "bevel"gears to complete assembly. I'm not sure if that is true with your Ofna's though.

1.50in or smaller ring gear will fit The bulkheads I read somewhere. My spiral geared ones fit in the hybrid bulkhead were just trying to get the outboard axle cups to fit.

I was referring to the comment about you trying to fit the outboard axle cups. I thought you were trying to fit the ring and pinion gear to fit in the diff housing.
