Quark is up in smoke. - 06.16.2006, 08:57 PM

Will I figure i would be the first to say.
I have fried the first quark.
I don't know what happened.
The esc got to a hotest of 121 today.
I geared it up some.
It normally runs about the 110.
It had a problem from the start.
I talked to mike and he said it was not right.
Well it really is not right now. Blackened esc any one?

Peace!

Not a very good birthday present :( That stinks leroy, im sure mike will figure this out! The temps your quark was running are colder than my 9920.

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

It acted like 2 out of 3 phases was hooked up. It only did this on first plug up of batts. If you got it to go it seemed ok. It was accually a great esc. I loved it. It was smooth and stuff after you got it going. I just don't know what was wrong. I guess I am going to see how the customer service is now. I know mike has good but have to see about quark.

I've had mine up to 145*F after about 12 minutes with no thermal shut down yet. I have not run mine very many times yet though. I like mine so far too. I hope the customer service is good for all our sakes!

Seems that brushless still is too fragile.

The one that's coming out on Monday is the 1/10 version. The Monster version won't be out for a while still. I was merely commenting on the fragility of brushless.

I was just reading on another forum.
A guy had the same problem I was having on the quark 80b.
He said it was a problem with running 6s lipo.
Does any one else know if that is the case?
Will the 125 run on 6s lipo ok? I was thinking of getting another and see if it smoked but makes me worried not about doing it.

Peace!

Maybe it's possible that even though it says it's OK to run to 6s lipo, the voltage (~25v) is a little too high or maybe very close (if not over) the FETs' safe working voltage?

Or, it could simply be bad luck. There are bound to be a few released that may have a bad component or two. These ESCs have a bunch of paralleled FETs for each phase and if just one develops a short from the drain to source electrodes, then it could pass enough current to burn out a few traces rendering the whole thing useless.
