My 9918 plays music - 04.12.2005, 08:00 AM

When I drive my bandit really slow, with my lehner and 9918 controller, it plays what sounds like music lol. I know there may be warning beeps(although I haven't heard one yet) but these are tones that come out of the controller at different pitches almost sounding like a song. Anyone ever heard this?

I showed my wife the other day just to make sure I wasn't crazy. She asked why it did that? I laughed and told her I have no clue. So I figured I'd ask here.

It was also the first time she saw me really drive it and she dropped her jaw when I flew across my yard with it faster than my nitro 2.5 rustler.

The warriors (actually, BK controllers) "sing" this song when taking off slowly. It has something to do with the 2 pole sensorless design of the motor and the way the controller "starts" it before it finds the magnet rotation. All this time and you are just now hearing the sound, huh! I guess you don't drive slow very often!

Cool! I just started bashing around with it recently because the snow just melted here. I didn't notice it until about a week ago because all I was doing is speed runs before that.

Glad it is normal. Thanks Mike.

It's because it gives the motor very much small pulses, in a very small time. I don't know if you have got electric trains running over there, (1:1) but these sound a bit like that too (it's called a chopper, it chops the power in to little pieces and feeds those small pulses to the motor)

It is a nice sound in my opinion..

But are you sure it comes from the controller and not from the motor? The motor has got a mechanical thing (rotor/copperwire) that can create the noise. The controller should nog give a beep IMO.

It is the motor that makes the sound. the controller causes the motor to make the sound.
