Dual Mamba Maxx 4600's in a E-Maxx? - 12.05.2006, 04:25 PM

Has anyone tried dual Mamba Maxx 4600's in a E-Maxx?

Opinions on if it would be better or worse than a Neu1515 w/MM ESC?

Price would be similar but obviously weight would be slightly higher.

Interesting thought. What would be the best way to syncronize the two escs/motors? Y slpitter from the reciever? Personally I would be more inclined to keeping things as simple as possible. The dual system adds more components that may fail. I don't know if that is worth the added performance gains (if any). JMHO

Yes, a Y-Splitter from the receiver would handle the input to the ESC's well enough, but I wonder if the motors could get out of sync where they were working against one another (one running at 30,000 the other at say 31,000 and causing both to heat up?)

You - that is definitely a consideration for trying to keep things simple. Another thought is to run the second system on a separate channel and then use your radio's mixing function to syncronize the motors.. I'm not sure how you would know they were exactly synced though.

maybe some type of rpm sensor on both? Run them both unloaded temporarily up to ~30k rpm and adjust transmitter as necessary (using channel mixing). Even then, each one may behave slightly different under load...

JOHNNYMAXXIMA, has a dual brushless Maxx. He can give you some input.

I don't think its a concern about the slight variances...It would be just like a dual motor brushed setup...

I agree that it should behave like a dual brushed setup. I would think that any variance in speed between the 2 motors would be lost in the load from pushing the maxx around. I do think that you would have to disable the bec in one of the esc's or maybe disable both and use a ubec (4s lipo for each system is an option then).

I would think that combo would be pretty stout performance wise.
I would also think that 4s w/Feigao 8XL's would be better since 4s per MM ESC would crank up the MM Motors to astronomical rpm's!

I could do dual MM Esc's w/UBEC and dual Feigao's for around $450

Hank;

I would pick the single setup any day over a dual.

Simple example; Ryan Coombes used two basix XL4200's (which are more powerfull than the mm 4600's) in his emaxx, he stepped up to the plettenberg, and it runs less hot and faster with more torque. The 1515 is very much like the plettenberg.

Go for the 1515 with a 4s2p 8000mAh maxxamps pack, and you will have a great race-machine

Squee is right. No different I think than say the stock titans running together. My temps are usually within a few degrees of each other so I don't think there is any issues with them fighting each other.
Torque is crazy with this setup (dual 7XL's on 5s each). If your looking to pull some stumps out of the ground I would go with a dual setup. Wheelies from 40mph is not an issue. For all around bashing though I would go single setup.

I don't think it is a thing of one fighting the other. Both will have resistance on
them. I wonder if 3s per mm 4600 would be better.

Peace!

Two 7XL's on 5s? Whoa...How fast does that thing go? I assume 60mph at a bare minimum?

I would go with XL motors instead. Possibly twin 7XL's on 4S? Wont be as fast as Johnny's 5S but it will still be really quick...

Dual ESC's running a BL motor each seems very different than a single ESC
running Dual brushed motors. Unless the ESC's are sync'd somehow, a dual motor setup will never be as efficient as a single motor setup.
A dual brushless setup would provide a lot of torque but is impractical for most applications. The vehicles drive train is already heavily taxed by a single BL motor setup. I would imagine you would find your drive train's weakest links pretty quickly with a dual BL motor setup.

Seems like the best bet is still a Quark (or MM ESC) w/Neu or Lehner

with the budget option of using a Feigao XL series

I was just kicking the idea around since dual MM's would be similar in price.
