Can someone please explain to me what a pole is in a brushless motor?
Thanks,
Chris

The poles are the amount of n/s poles the roter is divided in. (from a rotating point of view)
Take it away Brian... This one has got your name on it.. LOL

Thanks. I have also heard that with an increase in poles there is an increase in torque as well?
Thanks,
Chris

Lol, thanks Serum, but you seem to have explained it well (and in much fewer words than I would have as you know). :)
4 pole motors generally have more torque because there are more coils energized at once. IIRC, more poles increases the inductance from the ESC point of view, so they can be more difficult to drive.

Oh sure, I was not referring to that one, I was talking "in general".

I do try to be brief in the posts, but found that when I do, the explanation is not complete and people (esp noobs) may misinterpret the meaning. Better to be long-winded but complete, rather than brief and unclear.
Thanks for the props HNC. But MM will be sad that you forgot him. :dft004:

I actually like reading your posts Brian, I hope that you did not get me wrong. They are informative, even though I still don't understand half of them. LOL, but they are great enjoyment!

Thank goodness! I got a tad worried there for a minute! They are informative, I usually print them out though for the info.
