Small cooling fan for 7018 in Stampede? - 04.26.2005, 03:30 AM

What cooling fans are people using when they need one for their ESC? I've been getting some glitching type issues and I'm pretty sure I'm thinking part of it is heat. I noticed it thermal a few times and checking temps the ESC will sometimes be over 170, and this after only a couple minutes. It just isn't getting enough airflow to keep it cool.

I used a fan from a video card. It's 35mm fan, 12 volt. I'm running it on 16 cells (19.2 volts). I'm using it on my schulze 18.97 and so far the fan has not died. As for cooling, it does a pretty good job. It kept my temps down about 30 deg.

Wihout the fan I'd get 140 deg, which from reading forums is not hot. With the fan it's about 110 deg or so. During the hotter upcoming days, I'll really be putting it to the test.

Radio shack also has small 12 volt fans (40mm by 40mm size). these work well. I have them on pretty much all my stuff.

Ebay is a great resource, here is one: http://search.ebay.com/5v-fan_W0QQfkrZ1QQfromZR8

Just go to the very bottom where the ebay store part is. These fans are 5V so you can run them directly off the reciver.

The only problem for me that i see is that they run off the receiver pack - When i was running a receiver pack ( before the ubec ) i hated that i had to always recharge it. This would only make recharging more frequent.....

Actually most fans you can set up to plug into the Rx spot, or you can hook it up directly to the battery power somehow with the ubec. I forgot how, but JANG showed me how to do it once. And you never have to charge the ubec

A guy at work gave me a small 5 volt fan off a CPU. Should do the trick and at only 0.08 amp draw, running off the receiver pack should be just fine. Now I just gotta wire it into the switched side.
